Pre-Cataclysm, be sure to spend your first 3 awards on Recipe: Highland Spirits. Both ingredients can be bought from regular food vendors in Orgrimmar, and the recipe (unlike most of the others that appear to be usable) can be learned before the expansion becomes active. It should provide you with some easy skillups.

Does anyone know if there will be a cap on the number of awards you can receive? I had heard there would be but can't confirm.

If you mouse over the chef's award it says x/10. Currently I have 2 so it says 2/10. Which means there is a cap of 10. Good luck with your ticket. No wonder it takes 3 days to get a ticket answered.

For the curious, as of 4.0.6 you need 91 of these awards to buy all of Shazdar's recipes. Not as awful as it sounds, since several of the available quests award two cooking awards rather than just one.
