These now drop off of Ebon Whelps... Which is sad... cause now you have to kill and skin a level 24 to get mats for the first dragon scale leather items, which are still for level 15 characters.

AND the quest loot is better.

I donno why, but I liked these low level dragon scale pattern, it made me feel like Leatherworking had some interesting things to offer, it was cool, to think you might have to go skin some exotic beastie to get that way cool cloak.

(Not that that feeling was ever really true, but I digress.)

Blizz should make the gear blue and bump it 5 levels.

I would suggest farming for these if you can skin and if you have an alt or a fellow guildmate around Lv. 15 who is a leather-wearing agility-based DPS spec. These are a reagent for the Black Whelp Tunic which with that extra hit is a phenomenal chestpiece for Lv. 15-20.

Obtaining Black Whelp Scales requires Journeyman Skinning level 120. If your playing Starter Edition you are level capped at 100 for Skinning and Leatherworking. You will be able to purchase and learn the Patterns for the Black Whelp Tunic and Black Whelp Cloak but you will not be able to skin the whelps or buy/trade for the materials. Sucks, but that's how it is.

While multibox farming these off the Dragonnet d'ébène I was able to get about 400 in 30 minutes with Eau-de-feu de Sombrelune. WTBGold has a solid video on the best farming location for them even if you're going to try and do it solo.

Recommend that you just sell them in stacks of 20 since the 2 Recipes that they can be used for require both 12 and 8. Quick mafs. On my server (Stormrage-US) that's about 8,000g.
