The drop rate is relatively low, and if you use a loot filter, make sure you add to keep Grime-Encrusted Ring, else it'll delete the item from your inventory (I had mine set to delete Grime-Encrusted Object, but it's finicky so it decided they were one in the same :3).

Starts a 3 part quest chain which ends in Ironforge, the chain rewards a spirit ring.

the whole chain gives a pretty good chunk of EXP for very little effort!

For Alliance Characters:

1. The Grime-encrusted ring is a low drop from Gnomeregan mobs. The item when picked up offers a quest.

2. After accepting the quest, there are cleaning machines located in Gnomeregan, in a friendly room with 4 cleaning machines and a mailbox. You can clean the ring there.

3. After cleaning the ring, you will be offered a quest called "Return of the Ring". You can either keep the ring for yourself or return it to Talvash del Kissel, located in the northeast corner of the mystic ward in Ironforge.

For Those of you who don't know what or where Gnomeregan is, it is a dungeon instance located in the gnome starting zone. Can be found using dungeon finder.

Let me explain this in a way that refers to actual locations. Once you acquire the Grime-Encrusted Ring, you have to take it to the Clean Zone off the Dormitory, which itself is off the Hall of Gears. The Hall of Gears (first map displayed) is the first area you come to after entering the instance.

Instead of jumping down, follow the walkway clockwise, to the second opening off it. Follow it along, dodging or killing the troggs, until you get to the Dormitory (second map displayed). Turn right once inside the doorway, and the entrance to the Clean Zone is a short distance in that direction. To clean the ring, you can only use the first machine to the right.

Going up the stairs in the back of the Clean Zone takes you back to the corridor which led you there initially. There appears to be a portal in the middle of the room, but it was not active for me.

Gnome Improvement is the last leg of this quest chain, and will require you go fetch a silver bar and a moss agate for Talvash del Kissel to improve the ring you found. At the time of this posting, it cost me over 5g for a Blue result way below my level which only sold for 60s. Eh, I was doing it more for the rep anyway, and elsewhere it says it counts towards Loremaster.

Talvash is standing on the porch of his house in the corner of the Mystic Ward closest to the Forlorn Cavern. You can't miss him. When you bring back the materials, the question mark will not change to active yellow due to the element of paying the NPC for his services. Just keep clicking through and it'll complete.

Horde Players:

If you get this quest item and are unable to complete the quest on the same run through the dungeon, Gnomergan can be easily accessed via a teleporter in Northern Stranglethorn from the main camp (where the zeppelin tower is located).

The clean zone is easily visible on the map when you enter the dungeon. Don't drop down! The mobs between the zone entrance and the clean zone are level 24-27. If you choose to stealth, keep in mind that the green 'irradiated' mobs will damage you if you get too close and break your stealth.

The back left machine allowed me to complete this quest. The other machine I tried did not offer this quest to me, but I was able to use it for some other grime encrusted things. Keep in mind that the mobs in the room are alliance friendly but will attack horde, so if you stealth (as I did) you have be careful where you stand when you use the machine.

Horde players are offered basically the same quest as alliance members upon turning in the ring, but the turn-in is in Orgrimmar rather than Ironforge.

End reward of the series is Anneau d'or de Nogg

There are three Le Brille-o-Matic 5200s, but only one cleans the Grime Encrusted Ring. The one by the bottom of the stairs does not, nor the one in the back away from the doorway down; only the one in the corner opposite the bottom of the staircase works for the ring.

As of patch 7.0.3, this item still drops in Gnomeregan. Even the followup quest, Gnome improvement is still there. Although, it took a second run for me in Gnomeregan before I got this item.

This quest is obtained from Grime Encrusted Ring which drop off the Dark Iron Agent mobs in the dungeon. If you're levelled for the instance, may be worth turning this quest in, as this is an easy chain that rewards a nice blue item Nogg's Gold Ring

Next part of the chain: "Return of the Ring"
Final quest in the chain: "Nogg's Ring Redo"

The above is the Horde version, the Alliance version is the name, but with different NPC names and location.
