New Anima Powers have been found on the 9.1 PTR which seem related to the upcoming Domination Seasonal Affix for Season 2 of Shadowlands! These Anima Powers are very special, as they allow you to turn the power of the weekly Mythic+ affixes on enemies!
Previous Season 2 Domination Affix Speculation
Season 2 Domination Mythic+ Affix
Not much is known about the Season 2
Tourmenté
affix coming in Patch 9.1, as even the idea that Anima Powers are involved has been contested. However, more evidence has been added to the Patch 9.1 PTR which supports the idea that Anima Powers are involved, as some new Anima Powers now relate to some of the current weekly Mythic+ affixes --
Nécrotique
and
Volcanique
.
Datamined Mythic+ Anima Powers
These are the currently datamined Anima Powers:
Dague de blessure nécrotique
: You harmful spells and abilities consume the target with creeping decay, inflicting 1 Physical damage every 2 sec, and reducing healing and absorption received by 2% for 8 sec stacking up to 10 times.
(3s cooldown)
Nuage volcanique
: Your damaging abilities have a chance to create a gout of flame beneath the target that erupts after 2.5 sec, dealing 3,566 (in M0) Fire damage to all enemies within 3 yards, and knocking them upward.
Proc chance: 15%, 10s cooldown
Of course, there is a chance for these Anima Powers to be for Torghast, but I find that to be extremely unlikely due to these Anima Powers having essentially the same name and effects as existing Mythic+ affixes.
Season 2 Domination Affix Speculation
I expect these two Anima Powers to be the start of a
Tourmenté
Anima Power for every Mythic+ affix! These seem super cool as it allows players to benefit from the weekly affix as well, similar to how the enemies do. Imagine an Anima Power that could allow players to benefit from the
Galvanisant
or
Inspirant
auras, heal from the
Sanguin
pools or deal damage/interrupt enemies by hitting them with
Sismique
. We'll have to see what happens in future PTR build!
A big question then becomes if these are the only Anima Powers in the pool or are they only going to only show up on weeks that the affix is active? I learn towards the latter because some of these would be really difficult to come up with Anima Powers that can relate on any week, and a rotating set of Anima Powers fits with
some of the speculation
that I made previously. I do think Blizzard wants to return to a Seasonal Affix that changes weekly and having a set of Anima Powers that will rotate and directly relate to the current weekly affixes seems really cool! This does mean that I expect some generic Anima Powers as well to round out a set of Anima Power choices.
There's still a lot that has been unconfirmed about the upcoming Season 2 affix, but so far this seems like an interesting start. There's still many things that still need to be confirmed such as:
How do you get Anima Powers?
Are Anima Powers random?
What are the Jailer's Forces?
What are the other Anima Powers?
We still know very little overall about the Season 2 affix, so there's plenty of missing elements that we'll have to learn in upcoming PTR builds!
Thoughts and Opinions
I love the idea of affix-related Anima Powers, and depending on how the remaining ones are implemented, they could end up being really awesome -- allowing players to feel like they're cheating the system. I also like the idea of the Anima Powers changing every week, as that would give some reason to possibly change up your route. However, in the spirit of Torghast, I think I'd like to see them take these affix Anima Powers and possibly even go one step further with them and make them almost seem too crazy strong. Anima Powers are awesome and make players feel powerful!
