With the upcoming
Cataclysm
expansion now going through its beta phase, I thought now would be a perfect time to take a look at some of the classic dungeons that everyone loves and see how they will be changing.
The first dungeon we're taking a look at is
Monastère Écarlate
. While technically only one instance, it has been split up into four wings: Graveyard, Library, Armory, and Cathedral. The four wings have seen no physical changes, but each has received a nice makeover in mob and quest locations.
Note: This is from a Horde perspective, because that's what character I had available. The Alliance version is slightly different.
WARNING: IF YOU DON'T LIKE SPOILERS OF ANY KIND, DON'T READ THIS.
Graveyard
As soon as you enter the instance you'll notice something strange is going on... there are
Gardeffroi royal réprouvé
s located at the start of the instance with
Forestier-sombre Velonara
. Velonara will be showing up throughout the four wings as the primary quest giver, and this time she has the quest
Le côté obscur de la Lumière
which requires you to kill the two bosses in this wing. After this point you'll move into the rest of the instance, which is exactly the way you left it—killing
Interrogateur Vislar
, meeting
Vorrel Sengutz
and then finally killing
Mage de sang Thalnos
.

Library
Once again when you start your trek into the Library you will be greeted by
Forestier-sombre Velonara
who just happens to be stealthed at the start of the instance. Velonara has the quest
La meilleure attaque, c'est les défenses
, which will have you kill both
Maître-chien Loksey
and
Arcaniste Doan
. As you proceed through the instance, you will also come across a new friend -
Dominic
- who will gladly give you the quest
Compendium des Déchus
, requiring you to grab a book off a shelf towards the end of the instance. From this point on the instance is the same as you remember it, with the exception of a few groups of mobs that have been removed.

Armory
You are greeted by
Forestier-sombre Velonara
again, who is stationed at the entrance to the Armory with a large group of
Gardeffroi royal réprouvé
s, and will provide another quest -
La meilleure défense, c'est les attaques
- which has you kill
Hérode
. While "silently" slaughtering the Scarlet Crusade, you will meet up with our old buddy
Dominic
who has the quest
Sans rime ni raison
- this one having you kill mobs on the way to Herod. Once again from this point on it's all the same, but thankfully some of the pulls throughout the instance have been either removed or reduced in numbers.

Cathedral
The "final" wing in
Monastère Écarlate
starts out with a long hallway filled with
Gardeffroi royal réprouvé
s, with
Forestier-sombre Velonara
at the end. It seems the forsaken are making headway towards the Cathedral proper, and Velonara has the quest
Battle for the Scarlet Monastery
, which has you kill both
Grande inquisitrice Blanchetête
and
Commandant écarlate Mograine
. As you move into the courtyard you will notice the
Déchire-chair réprouvé
s are in battle with the Scarlet Crusade and are holding back some of the mobs from attacking you. Going in a little further, you will see
Dominic
standing up top in the fountain - who just so happens to have the quest
Right Under Their Noses
, where you will need to kill
Grand inquisiteur Fairbanks
in his hidden chamber at the back of the Cathedral. As with the other wings of Scarlet Monastery, the rest of the instance is pretty much unchanged other than the reduction of mobs throughout the instance.

So now that you've heard what is changing in
Monastère Écarlate
,
what do you think
? Is this a welcome change for people actually wanting to do dungeons while leveling or do you miss the old days?
