BlizzCon 2015 - Overwatch Dev Chat and Q&A

There was a surprise panel at the Darkmoone Faire stage featuring the Overwatch developers.
The team started off by giving some tips and tricks for Zarya, one of the Warriors in the game. Zarya is not a very good solo tank so the devs gave some tips.
You could find a partner and run 2 Zaryas. You both have a personal shield and a shield you can place on the other player for extra tankiness.
Zarya really shines at high energy levels. Toss a shield on enemies that are about to enter combat to build the power level.
Q: How accurate is the team composition tips system?
A: It's not so much that they want to enforce a meta, but more that they want to inform players that many team composition should have a healer or a tank. The more you play, the less you have to rely on the system to guide you. The system is there for those who are lost.
Q: Is there anything to prevent the camera from going from all the way around when aiming up at a Pharah?
A: Not right now, but generally you shouldn't be directly under a Pharah anyways.
Q: Mercy seems to be used in a lot of scrims and games right now. Is there any plans on changing this?
A: They're keeping a close eye but not planning on changing anything now. While Widowmaker or Hanzo can kill with a single body shot with a boost, you could try using different heroes to counter it such as Winston and Zenyatta.
Q: Do you have any comments on visual clutter?
A: They are looking at it and do want Overwatch to be enjoyable to watch. There's nothing specific as of right now, but they do know some effects are over the top. For example, they recently changed barriers in the game and Hanzo's sonar arrow.
Q: Will Genji's reflect block rockets?
A: Yes! This includes Pharah's ultimate and Zarya's ultimate! Reflect only is active for 2 seconds though.
Q: Pharah has the ability to leapfrog on and off roofs quickly. Is this being looked into?
A: Yes, they are looking into this.
Does D'va's mech get affected by shields?
A: Yes, the mech is also affected by buffs. One cool too for Reindhart players: you are able to charge D'va's mech as it's exploding to move it away from your team.
Q: Why Hanzo over Widowmaker?
A: Hanzo has a lot more mobility than Widowmaker because of his wall climb having no cooldown. Hanzo's sonar arrow can be used more situationally because of its shorter cooldown.
Q: Mei's ice wall causes players to go up rather than displace them. Is there anything else like that?
A: Ice wall can be used in multiple ways. You can block projectiles like a barrier or boost yourself or your teammates to otherwise unreachable places.
Q: Is there a best Attack or Defend composition?
A: They don't think so right now. A favourite is double Winston, double Lucio, Pharah, Mercy but it depends on the map and the enemy's composition. However, Symmetra is a good pick for an initial pick on Defense but once the first point is taken, changing off Symmetra might be a better idea. Widowmaker has an easier time in the final section of Watchpoint: Gibratlr than the middle section.
Q: Is there anyone that feels overpowered or underpowered right now?
A: Each hero feels overpowered in their own way. It all depends on matchups and teamwork.
After the session, I got a few moments to ask the developers a few more questions.
Q: How do you feel about the Temple of Anubis having large choke points with fewer flanks?
A: It's actually the first map they made and originally the large archway had no other flanks. Now there are still multiple routes though some of them can only be accessed by heroes with a leap such as Winston or Pharah. It's a different style of map where you either break the defense or you feel you're not making any progress.
Q: How do you feel about the current death timers?
A: There are a couple of maps where the death timers could be a little long, but right now they feel about right.
