Why is Mythic N'Zoth so difficult? Mythic N'Zoth has proven to be a challenging end boss with complex mechanics, high raid damage and a fight where Immunities shine. We breakdown and analyze the Mythic N'Zoth encounter and go over the mechanical changes of this boss to try to explain why Mythic N'zoth is so challenging!
Sanity Management - Change to
Radiance d’Azeroth
If you've done N'Zoth on Normal or Heroic difficulties, you will know about the importance of maintaining your Sanity on this encounter. On Mythic, avoiding Sanity damage becomes even more important because of the change to
Radiance d’Azeroth
.
On Mythic, this ability now is a
one-time use
. In addition, instead of restoring your Sanity to 100% over 4 seconds, it restores 5 sanity to all nearby allies every second for 4 seconds. This means that using
Radiance d’Azeroth
is now going to be used for the raid and assigned. If you get take extra Sanity damage, your Sanity will be lower than the rest of the raid permanently, unless the raid wants to commit an extra
Radiance d’Azeroth
charge just to you, and there's only 20 for the entire fight! But you're not going to use all 20 in this way due to the Secret Phase... More on this later.
High Base Raid Damage
Whenever you are in Reality on the N'Zoth encounter (not in a Mindgate or in the Heart Forge), you have the
Tribut de l’infini
debuff applied to you. On Heroic this deals 17k damage every 5 seconds which is a base of ~3.4k DTPS. However, on Mythic, this damage jumps to
~40k damage every 2 seconds
which is a base of ~20k DTPS per player which is a massive increase.
Every minute, N'Zoth also casts
Tourment éternel
which deals 80k damage to each player in Reality every second for 3 seconds. There's a lot of base raid damage in all phases of N'Zoth and despite predictions, this fight will probably not be 1 healed!
Phase 1
Phase 1 of Mythic N'Zoth is very similar to Phase 2 of Heroic N'zoth, and probably the easiest phase of Mythic N'Zoth, but it's still challenging for various reasons.
Psychus Health
During the Mindgate phases, Psychus has a massive
102 million health
. With only 10 players for the Mindgates, this means that guilds have to go higher than the standard 5 stacks for Heroic difficulty and Complexity Limit takes it up to 7 stacks before it dies. Complexity Limit also has 4 Fire Mages in on the encounter, and they destroy Psychus with their massive burst damage, while also getting free Synapse kills thanks to
Maîtrise : Enflammer
.
While Psychus only wipes the raid at 100% energy, a new wave of tentacles spawns around the 90-95% energy mark if N'Zoth isn't stunned during this time by defeating Psychus and applying
Égo brisé
. This extra wave of tentacles isn't stunned on Mythic and will surely cause a wipe if the DPS check is missed.
With 2 separate Mindgates, both groups have to succeed in order to proceed.
Paranoia + Mindgrasp
On Mythic difficulty, every single player in Reality gets
Paranoïa
. The mechanics of Paranoia don't change; you take increasing damage the longer that you're not stacked on your partner and sanity damage if you run over another player. The damage that you take for not stacking with your partner is greatly increased on Mythic difficulty, increasing the speed at which you want to stack with your partner. With the entire raid trying to find their partner simultaneously, it's likely some sanity damage will occur.
But that's not all... You may remember the
Étreinte de l’esprit
and Corrupted Neuron phase that occurs on Normal or Heroic N'Zoth and wondered why this mechanic exists because there's nothing else going on during it. On Mythic N'Zoth, there is another mechanic going on with it! Every single
Étreinte de l’esprit
on Mythic lines up with a Paranoia. You will have to clear enough Neurons to have enough room for all the Paranoia pairs to be safe from the Mindgrasp.
Phase 2
Phase 2 of Mythic N'Zoth is very similar to Phase 3 of Heroic N'Zoth and a very intensive healing check.
The Thought Harvesters - Countered by Immunities
The Thought Harvesters are a problem as they guaranteed get 1 cast of
Moisson mentale
off. Two Thought Harvesters spawn at a time which means that their
Moisson mentale
will overlap.
On Mythic, each soak will split 400 sanity damage among all players hit.
Every player that soaks will take 200k damage.
If less than 5 players soak, all players lose all their sanity.
This means that if you do a full group soak, like on Heroic, every member of the raid will take 400k damage and 40 sanity. The sanity is recovered by using exactly 2 channels of
Radiance d’Azeroth
, but 400k damage to a player is a lot of extra damage on this fight!
Limit is only soaking the first set of
Moisson mentale
, using 2 channels of
Radiance d’Azeroth
, and then using Immunities. Immunities completely prevent the damage, completely prevent the sanity damage and count towards the 5 players hit. This prevents them from taking extra damage and allowing them to save their
Radiance d’Azeroth
casts for later!
High Healing Requirement
We've already talked about the raid damage from the always active
Tribut de l’infini
and minute long burst of
Tourment éternel
, but there's even more raid damage in Phase 2!
Évocation d’angoisse
deals 250k damage when it applies the debuff, then about 75k every 2 seconds for 8 seconds while the debuff ticks.
If you choose to soaking the Thought Harvester's
Moisson mentale
, it deals 200k damage per player that soaks. There's also two Thought Harvesters at a time that cast.
Évocation d’angoisse
is also cast more frequently in Mythic difficulty. Every minute, N'Zoth will cast two Evoke Anguish's within 20 seconds of each other forcing healer cooldowns to be used.
Between these mechanics, healers will also be forced to move during
Regard sidérant
(eyeball laser beams) making this phase a very difficult fight to heal!
No Room to Breathe - Back to Back Mechanics
Phase 2 of Mythic N'zoth is mechanic after mechanic after mechanic and there's almost no room to breathe. Most of these mechanics deal damage and also require movement, so healers have to be on the ball to survive this phase.
Here's a timeline of the Phase 2 sequence with Timestamps to show you how close these abilities are together from one of
Limit's Attempts
:
6:07 Convergence (Phase Start)
6:22 2x Harvest Thoughts
6:27 Evoke Anguish Applied
6:35 Evoke Anguish Dropped
6:40 Stupefying Glare Starts
6:47 Evoke Anguish Applied
6:49 Stupefying Glare Ends
6:55 Evoke Anguish Dropped
7:00 Paranoia
7:13 Mindgrasp Applied
7:18 Mindgrasp Falls
7:22 Evoke Anguish Applied
7:29 Evoke Anguish Falls
7:40 2x Harvest Thoughts (Immuned)
7:43 Evoke Anguish Applied
7:50 Evoke Anguish Dropped
7:50 Stupefying Glare Starts
7:59 Stupefying Glare Ends
8:03 Paranoia
8:06 2x Harvest Thoughts (Immuned)
8:13 Stupefying Glare Starts
8:22 Stupefying Glare Ends
The largest gaps in time are 13 seconds while dealing with Paranoia / Mindgrasp and 14 seconds between Evoke Anguishes and you're going to be moving for a good chunk of this time too!
Phase 3 - The Secret Phase
The Secret Phase is comparatively tame compared to Phase 2 of the N'Zoth fight as movement is limited and damage is done in single bursts. While in the Heart Forge
Tribut de l’infini
is removed, a sigh of relief for the healers!
Main Mechanic - Titanic Countermeasures
The Main Mechanic of the Secret Phase is
Titanic Countermeasures
. These spawn 3 or 4 at a time in various formations and will cast
Protocole de purification
. This cast deals falloff damage if not prevented and even at max range, this ability still does about 400k to players. Since multiple spawn at the same time, you can have a maximum of 1 detonate at a time, which means you need to
Désactivation des contre-mesures
the rest of them. To do this, you click on the countermeasure but this requires you to have your
Radiance d’Azeroth
unused so far, and will prevent you from using it for the rest of the fight!
Complexity Limit is currently planning to cast
Désactivation des contre-mesures
7 times, which means they'll only get 13
Désactivation des contre-mesures
casts to keep their sanity up for the rest of the fight!
Phase 4 - Phase 2 Once Again
Limit has only gotten to this point a few times, but from it looks like the fight continues after the Secret Phase! Players return to N'zoth, and must complete Phase 2 again. It's still not clear if something will happen after a set period of time or if N'zoth will just die at a certain %. It's likely that the fight can't go on for much longer, as Limit is already pushing the 10 minute mark when they leave the Heart Chamber so this is probably the final burn to a set %. It might be 25% as that's when N'Zoth shielded himself on
Limit's Bugged Attempt
when they didn't complete the Heart Forge phase.
This Phase will prove to be difficult as Immunities are likely not going to be up yet and many
Désactivation des contre-mesures
s will have to be used already.
We'll have to see what happens as the Race to World First continues!
