WARNING: SHADOWLANDS STORY SPOILERS AHEAD!
Before De Other Side - Night Fae Campaign
preamble for Shadowlands Alpha build 34821
, broadcast texts alluding to Mueh'zala were added, but are nowhere to be seen in De Other Side dungeon. Presumably, these are encountered during the
, which has two chapters that are relevant to both Bwonsamdi and Mueh'zala: "De Boss" and "Deal With a Loa".
From the tone of this broadcast text, it seems like we will be meeting Vol'jin and Bwonsamdi during the Night Fae Covenant campaign, and it is revealed that Mueh'zala was indeed the one who whispered to Vol'jin to nominate Sylvanas as the new Warchief of the Horde in Legion. Mueh'zala, working with The Jailer, was eventually banished to De Other Side.
According to Ion Hazzikostas' presentation at the
WoW: What's Next Panel at BlizzCon 2019
, De Other Side is actually Bwonsamdi's pocket dimension within the Shadowlands, linked to many other subzones.
Me no bow ta ya cheap tricks!
Azeroth be in ruins... and it be over one... little... whisper ta dis foolish troll.
Ya played ya part perfectly! Me was promised ta torture ya forever... but den someone else had ta get in de way.
Me be bored of ya, Mueh'zala. It be time for ya to be banished back ta de Other Side.
I be keepin' ya dere for de rest of existence. Ya got a new master now.
Me be releasin' da binds a bit on Mueh'zala. You be makin' sure me people don't get lost ta his power.
Mueh'zala be usin' me... ta put Sylvanas in power. Me be notin' but a pawn ta he and dis Jailer's plans.
Den it be time ta strike back against de Jailer.
Tink ya can be breakin' free now, Mueh'zala?
Foolish loa! You no be stoppin' me power. I be feastin' on ya followers... den you!
De Other Side Dungeon
As we enter on De Other Side dungeon, we see Bwonsamdi struggling in ethereal chains with Mueh'zala right next to him. As we enter through the portals in De Other Side, we're ported to versions of the zones where the characters are at. It isn't left very clear as there is no dialogue as we enter De Other Side, but Bwonsamdi requests you to retrieve back "mojo" (likely to be Anima) payments from entities Bwonsamdi made pacts with in the past.
It is currently unclear how this anima gathering works - If we're directly killing the entities or just versions of them replicated within De Other Side.
The first three encounters from De Other Side are not linear, and your group can finish them in whatever order they desire. For this news post, we're following the order the bosses appear in the Dungeon Journal.
The first entity we kill for Bwonsamdi is good old Hakkar, with Bwonsamdi implying that the blood god himself made a deal with Bwonsamdi for more power. The area Hakkar is in is named Zul'Gurub, with a lot of troll architecture, Amani and Gurubashi enemies and ending up with Hakkar being revered in an altar.
As we kill Hakkar, Bwonsamdi tells us that although we're forcing Hakkar to pay his debt to the Loa of Death, he will be back.
Bwonsamdi: Now here's a loa ya might remember! Hakkar always be needin' mojo for his rituals... and Bwonsamdi always be willin' ta make a deal.
Bwonsamdi: Whatcha be giving me dat look for? Sure, hakkar be a loa of blood. But a deal's a deal, man! Tsk. Just get me mojo back.
Bwonsamdi: Ol' Hakkar, he a nasty one. But ya be makin' he pay his debt. Sooner or later, him gonna be back. Ya can't be keepin' a bad loa down!
The next entity we end up facing in De Other Side are the Manastorm couple, Millhouse and Millificent! Millhouse was last seen during Legion, as part of the Mage Class Campaign, while Millificent was a boss in the Legion version of Violet Hold. When Millificent is defeated in Violet Hold, she manages to escape the prison by shrinking down to a minuscule size and escaping into Dalaran, swearing revenge on Millhouse. The area they are located in De Other Side is very similar to Mechagon.
However, it seems like since then, the couple has made amends, as they attack the group of players together! They're also notably the only boss encounter in the dungeon that ends up with them left alive. As we defeat them, Bwonsamdi tells us that even he found love somewhere back in the day. Who would be Bwonsamdi's loved one?
Bwonsamdi: It don't just be trolls who be comin' ta ask for ol' Bwonsamdi's help. All kinds be makin' deals wit da loa of death!
Bwonsamdi: Like dese two crazy little gnomes here. Dey both be hungry for power, so me were happy to oblige.
Bwonsamdi: But now, uh... me be needin' dat mojo back!
Bwonsamdi: True love... now ain't dat sweet? Ol' Bwonsamdi be havin' his share of romance back in his day. Heh... more den his share!
The third boss in De Other Side is Dealer Xy'exa, a female broker. Bwonsamdi explains that although he's a troll loa, he makes deals in other places as well. He also mentions that the brokers are more sinister than they first appear. Dealer Xy'exa is fought in an area similar to Ardenweald.
In Shadowlands, Brokers are seen in Oribos and Revendreth as well.
Bwonsamdi: Now ol' Bwonsamdi don't just be makin' deals on Azeroth. Brokers be lookin' for power... all kinda power.
Bwonsamdi: Dis one ain't gonna want ta give back me mojo. Careful now... she be tricky...
Bwonsamdi: Dem brokers be up ta somethin'. Ya best be keepin' an eye on 'em! NNNGGGG! Now hurry back wit me mojo!
Finally, after we gather enough anima for Bwonsamdi, he's able to help us in the final fight against the Father of Sleep. Bwonsamdi helps us defeat Mueh'zala via casting
Porte de la Mort
for the players to protect themselves against Mueh'zala's deadly
Destruction de la réalité
spell. As Mueh'zala uses Shatter Reality through his fight, he splits himself into Shattered Visages, beings that protect the Primeval Grasp totems that keep Bwonsamdi prisoner. As we defeat these Shattered Visages, Bwonsamdi gains power once again, dealing damage to Mueh'zala and granting the players movement speed and haste.
During the fight, Mueh'zala calls out his multiple known names. Observative players know these names from the old
Tablette de Theka
object seen in the Zul'Farrak dungeon.
As we defeat Mueh'zala, Bwonsamdi manages to enslave Mueh'zala within De Other Side, telling us that his upcoming punishment is not something that mortal eyes should be seeing. Mueh'zala doesn't die, but Bwonsamdi finally exclamates that he's his own boss.
Mueh'zala: Gonna send ya sounds to da Maw!
Mueh'zala: I be da God of Death! Da Night's Friend!
Mueh'zala: Behold da Father of Sleep! Da Son of Time!
Mueh'zala: Beaten... by mortal? How... can dis be?!
Bwonsamdi: Times change, mon. Mortals never be as weak as ya believed 'em ta be. Dey be havin'... potential.
Bwonsamdi: But don't ya be worryin' 'bout a ting. Ya gonna be havin' plenty a time ta learn from ya mistakes.
Bwonsamdi: Ya did good, heroes. But what Mueh'zala got comin' ain't for mortal eyes. Take ya trinkets and begone with ya!
Mueh'zala: Can't stop what's comin', Bwonsamdi. Da Jailer's gonna break it all!
Bwonsamdi: Tsk. Watch ya tongue, little ting! Bwonsamdi be da bossmon now...
