Dusting Off Those Retired Characters
24/06/2009 à 23:42
Because of Blizzard's recent announcements that
other speed-boosting forms
will be attainable at lower levels, I have finally found the motivation to do something I probably haven't done in a very, very long time: Log onto World of Warcraft and level up some characters which I thought were going to be in permanent retirement.
That's right. Up until recently, I haven't been playing World of Warcraft mainly because of school, but also because I haven't found the motivation. With the exciting upcoming changes, however, it looks like that long-lost motivation has finally come.
I have about fourteen or fifteen alts, all at a wide variety of levels. When the next content patch is released, the majority of them will be eligible for a new mount or an upgraded mount; this only leaves a few characters I'll need to level up in order to take advantage of the upcoming mount changes. So with those factors in mind, plus the fact that I want to level up a few characters in time, that has been more than enough motivation to log on!
Part of reason why I lost motivation to level my characters was due to downtime simply from traveling from place to place. The inconvenience seems to start at level 40, but now that we'll be able to attain epic land mounts at that level this will make downtime even shorter! To top that off, training for an epic mount and buying an epic mount will now be dirt cheap! Huzzah!
Another inconvenience starts at around level 60 or so, once you've progressed at a certain point in Hellfire Peninsula, and continues on throughout your adventures in Outland. Each zone in Outland is pretty big, and to do most of the quests there you have to spend at least a few minutes each traveling somewhere. The fact that we'll be able to attain flying mounts at level 60 will definitely make the leveling process in Outland easier—especially since we'll be able to fly at 150% running speed instead of 60%, which essentially means our land mounts won't be used as often! The cost does seem to scale down with the new level requirement, so for some people it might require some effort to rack up the amount of gold necessary to purchase both a flying mount and training.
On a final note, some classes will be positively affected because of some changes to made to certain speed-boosting spells. For example, my level 23 druid will be able to purchase
Forme de voyage
now that its level requirement has been reduced to level 16. Now the people who hate leveling druids will have some motivation to do it! Moreover,
are also going to their level requirements dropped to level 16 too.
With all of that being said,
how will the changes to mount and other travel forms boost your overall World of Warcraft experience?
Will it inspire you to level up some characters like it's done to me?
