Mythic Sire Denathrius First Look, Changes & Datamined Secret Phase Speculation

With Complexity Limit pulling Mythic Sire Denathrius, we take a first look at their pull and speculate what the Secret Phase of Denathrius could contain through some datamined spells! In addition, we analyze the known changes for the Mythic version of the encounter which seems to include a 4-Horseman style mechanic in Phase 2!
Mythic Sire Denathrius First Look
Directly after Complexity Limit killed Mythic Stone Legion Generals, they pulled Mythic Sire Denathrius for the first time with little preparation!
Mythic Sire Denathrius Changes
We've seen a good chunk of Mythic Phase 1, but the end of Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 are only speculation currently from the Dungeon Journal and datamining as neither Complexity Limit or any other guild has seen these phases on live servers yet.
Phase 1 Mythic Denathrius Changes
On Mythic Sire Denathrius, Phase 1 has the same flow of abilities (
Souffrance purificatrice
->
Prix du sang
->
Souffrance purificatrice
->
Ravage
) but there are a couple of other changes to make it harder.
On Mythic difficulty, players start with 6 stacks of
Fardeau du péché
which means that a "normal" players will need to clear 4 stacks throughout the phase rather than 3 stacks. This is made "easier" through the new version of
Souffrance purificatrice
, as each person hit by
Souffrance purificatrice
will cause a 1.5yd AoE around them dealing additional damage and losing an additional stack of
Fardeau du péché
, and summoning an extra add. This means that for each
Fardeau du péché
, players can actually clear multiple stacks of
Fardeau du péché
by stacking up in a tight formation.
On Mythic, there are 3
Chasseur nocturne
lines, up from 2 which makes it a little harder to soak as well and lastly there's
Malveillant
which probably won't affect guilds, and may only be present to prevent some cheese of leaving the adds alive.
Phase 2 Mythic Denathrius Changes
Phase 2 of Mythic Denathrius looks to be a Four-Horseman style phase. The dungeon journal mentions that Denathrius summons 4 of his lieutenants at the start of the Phase:
Dame Viciendiaire
,
Seigneur Eternombre
,
Baron Brunevide
and
Comtesse Voilenoir
.
If you raided during the first week, you will have seen these lieutenants as trash, spawning one per instance, before they were hotfixed and removed. They used their Mythic abilities as well which means that World First guilds probably already know exactly what these adds do and have plans on how to handle their abilities.
What is unknown about these adds is where they will spawn in the Phase. Will they spawn on the Balconies, or on the 4 arms of the platform? I personally think they'll spawn on one each on the 4 arms of the platform due to their abilities which we'll cover below.
Each of these Lieutenants have a passive aura (
Hymne nathrian : Viciendiaire
,
Hymne nathrian : Éternombre
,
Hymne nathrian : Brunevide
,
Hymne nathrian : Voilenoir
) which deals AoE damage within 50 yards but also applying a debuff that increases the damage taken by that specific aura by 20% per stack. This means that you'll likely have your raid rotate through the lieutenants, leaving one when your debuff stacks are high becoming coming back to it when the debuffs drop.
But of course, that's not all as each of the Lieutenants has a special ability as well:
Dame Viciendiaire
:
Censure incendiaire
- Ranged will be killing this one as the bolts are impossible to dodge in melee range (see picture below).
Seigneur Eternombre
:
Ombres sinistres
which casts
Gémissement vengeur
-
Gémissement vengeur
can be interrupted.
Baron Brunevide
:
Étreinte ombreuse
- Ranged will either need to be within 25 yards or be pulled to his location which could be annoying.
Comtesse Voilenoir
:
Voile noir
- It's the healer's favorite mechanic: a Smoke Bomb!
These Lieutenants do not appear to replace the rest of the Phase with
Cabaliste cramoisi
s still being listed in the Dungeon Journal. Not only will players have to keep up on Cabalists, but they will probably also have to work on these Lieutenants as well!
Players will likely have to be very conscious about their positioning in this phase as getting hit by a
Massacre
is a one-shot on Mythic and refreshing a Lieutenant stack through
Main de la destruction
's grip, using a Mirror or running away from
Main de la destruction
may cause issues.
Phase 3 Changes on Mythic Denathrius
The only change that is in the Dungeon Journal for Phase 3 is
Prix du sang
, other than the Through the Mirror Secret Phase covered below. However it's a
different
Blood Price spell as the information about Burden of Sin has been removed. As such, there is no condition for only AoE certain members of your raid like in Phase 1 which seems to indicate that if your entire raid is hit by this ability, you'll all kill each other. With the Mirror mechanic being in Phase 3 though, and a possible 50-50 (or some other split depending on what is needed in each Phase), this would lower the damage of Blood Price to survivable levels. This
Prix du sang
may be an ability to make sure that the group isn't all in one reality, but it's hard to say without knowing exactly what is in the Mirror.
Through the Mirror - The "Secret Phase"
Of course, the thing everyone wants to talk about is the "Secret Phase" and what it could be. There's something that's hidden in the dungeon journal through the spell
À travers le miroir
.
As Indignation is cast, the mirrors in the room begin to warp. What awaits players who pass through a mirror during this time is known only to Denathrius himself.
It's important to note that
Indignation
is an 8 second channel and when it completes, the area deals 16k damage which players cannot survive in. Based on this and the
À travers le miroir
, this likely means you'll be sending players through the mirrors during this 8 second channel and won't be able to enter a mirror after the channel completes.
What's on the other side? The
Indignation
gives us some clues. If you head to the spell page, you'll see:
The Buff Text
: Through the Mirror: You've become a reflection of your former self.
Effect #2
: Apply Aura: Phase
Based on these two clues, it's something that has happened in the past, and these players are phased. We have no idea if these players will ever return to reality. Unfortunately, we've scoured the database for things that are likely to relate to this and have really only found one spell that we feel has a chance to connect to the fight. However, Blizzard changes fights throughout Beta very often and meaning that spells that were once part of an encounter and eventually removed will still be part of the game and in the database.
Neutraliser
- Any contact between players on opposite sides of the mirror results in the immediate, lethal neutralization of both players.
We've found many other spells that could be related but there is no conclusive evidence linking them to this fight. However,
Neutraliser
seems a little promising, though remember it could be from a remnant of a past version or encounter and disused.
This would make Phase 3
very
interesting with players possibly phased from one another, but having to share the same space and avoiding touching each other or risk dying. Could the Mythic phase be as simple as Phase 3 with special positioning requirements, making sure that the two separated groups don't interact with each other? Or is there more? Could the mirror'ed players be getting a completely different encounter to deal with like the "Heart Chamber Phase" on N'Zoth while having to avoid colliding with players in reality?
There is one final theory for what's on the other side of the Mirror which
we speculated on
in September this year. There were two other interesting additions from datamining, the spell
Invocation de Garrosh
and the NPC
Garrosh
added in various Shadowlands Alpha/Beta builds and he was also shown in the
Afterlives: Revendreth Cinematic
as being in Revendreth. Garrosh would be an interesting addition to the encounter on the other side of the mirror and would definitely be part of " former " but we haven't found any spells that indicate that this is part of the encounter.
What do you think is on the other side of the Mirror? Let us know in the comments below and watch the

Other Denathrius Spells
There are some other spells in the database that indicate that Denathrius was using them. These are spells that are not in the Dungeon Journal and could be old spells that are deprecated or potentially part of Mythic.
Résonance sinistre
- Denathrius brands his current target along with 2 other random players. After 6 sec, each target releases a slow-moving wave of anima that inflicts 20 Shadow damage to other players on contact, and increases damage taken from Baleful Resonance by 400% for 2 sec.
À la faveur de la nuit
- Upon reaching 100 energy, Denathrius summons 4 Nightcloak Shards and dissolves into an invulnerable whirlwind of anima, inflicting 5 Shadow damage to all players every 1 sec. Lasts until all Nightcloak Shards have been destroyed.
