New Shandris and Tyrande Dialogue on Elune and the Burning of Teldrassil
15/08/2021 à 22:24
Many character interactions can be seen after completing the 9.1 Covenant Campaign, but one interaction does not happen in Korthia. Tyrande Whisperwind and Shandris Feathermoon talk about Elune's motivations in Ardenweald, by the Heart of the Forest. In addition, there is a dialogue between
Tyrande and Astarii
discussing the priestess' faith in Tyrande's leadership, which we covered earlier in the PTR cycle.
Shandris and Tyrande can be seen talking outside the Heart of the Forest, on the open area accessible to all players. When talking to Shandris and choosing the option
<Stay a while and listen>
, Shandris and Tyrande talk about the aftermath of the
By Our Hand cinematic
, where Elune speaks to the Winter Queen via Tyrande. Here we learn that Elune did not intervene in the Burning of Teldrassil because she sensed her sister's distress and wanted to help alleviate the Anima drought in Ardenweald.
This dialogue is accessible to all players (not only those part of the Night Fae Covenant) after completing the final chapter of the 9.1 Covenant Campaign,
Un avenir incertain
. In this dialogue, they talk about Elune's motivation for not intervening during the events of the War of the Thorns, and how both Elune and the Winter Queen had to endure hard choices while bound together in the eternal cycle of death and rebirth, and how Elune did not mean to cause the Kaldorei sorrow.
Shandris: It is good to see you whole again, Minn'do. I had feared you might be forever lost.
Tyrande: Ever since Darkshore, rage has swelled inside me. A tide under which I seemed destined to drown.
Tyrande: It was not until I heard Elune's voice that I recognized the grief buried beneath my anger. Sorrow intertwined with a deep sense of betrayal.
Shandris: When Teldrassil burned, I could not understand why the goddess did not intervene. Why she would allow so many to be lost.
Shandris: But I did not know of Ardenweald. Of the duty and purpose that awaited the souls of our people. At least... before the Maw.
Tyrande: Perhaps we can never truly know the ways of the gods, my daughter. But I believe Elune made a choice to aid her sister. Not to cause us sorrow.
Shandris: The Winter Queen face hard choices as well. She and Mother Moon are bound together in an eternal cycle. One of death and rebirth.
Tyrande: A cycle the Kaldorei must now rejoin. No more looking to the past. It is time to embrace our future.
This dialogue provides more context for
The Power of Night
Covenant Campaign chapter, as many players wanted to know why Tyrande, formerly set on vengeance, had such a change of heart after hearing Elune's dialogue with the Winter Queen. While many players are shocked that Tyrande isn't more upset at Elune for the suffering inflicted on the Kaldorei, or concerned that Elune exercised poor judgment in not realizing the souls would be sent to the Maw, it appears that Tyrande understands the difficult choice Elune faced and accepts the Kaldorei's role in the cycle of Life and Death.
Tyrande as the High Priestess of Elune has a unique relationship with the goddess and originally came to Ardenweald simply wanting answers--while the answer she received may not be to our liking, she did receive one that explained the goddess' actions and conveyed Elune's love for the Kaldorei.
It remains to be seen how Tyrande will react to the events of Sanctum of Domination, as she was not present at the raid and did not witness the Jailer's escape or the merging of Sylvanas' soul. While Tyrande may have forgiven Elune for her lack of action once the tree burned, it is unclear how she'll respond to Sylvanas who instigated the War of Thorns.
