Want to know more about the Runecarver and his past? When you've turned in 15 Legendary Recipes to the Runecarver, you will trigger a cinematic containing a memory of the Runecarver and showing a past interaction with the Jailer. Warning: Spoilers!

Once 15 Legendary Recipes (otherwise known as Memories of the Runecarver) have been returned to the Runecarver, you will earn the
La brume se dissipe
achievement and trigger an in-game cinematic containing a memory of the Runecarver, showing a past interaction with the Jailer.
Despite this cinematic being played in game, it looks like there are some missing models. You may only see a
small texture box
.
We have reuploaded a new datamined cinematic with more models.
This cinematic takes place in the past, after the Runecarver has been captured by the Jailer and tortured.
The Jailer
: Look at you. Pathetic. A puppet dancing on strings.
Runecarver
: I will not break... I will not break... I will not...
The Jailer
: Fool. Your mind is already broken.
The Jailer
: But even a broken thing can be made to serve.
The Jailer
: Countless secrets extracted. Insidious designs forged into weapons for my armies.
The Jailer
: But I require... more.
Runecarver
: (screams in pain)
The Jailer
: Your grandest design... to claim the final prize.
The Jailer
: The secret that the First Ones sought to hide.
The Jailer
: Yes. Your finest mourneblade...
The Jailer
: ... and a crown fit for the king of the damned.
The Jailer
: The vessels... of Domination.
This cinematic fuels speculation that the Runecarver is actually the Primus, the missing ruler of Maldraxxus who was a master tactician and crafter of weapons. Leading up to Shadowlands, we've been learning new details about the Helm of Domination and Frostmourne that highlight how the Jailer channels his sinister power through crafted gear, such as the corruptive nature of the helm in the short story "We Ride Forth" and the Maw's power spreading to Azeroth through Frostmourne in "Afterlives: Bastion."
The special book
Enemy Infiltration
from Revendreth also strongly hinted at a secret partnership between the Jailer and Nathrezim, explaining how the Burning Legion acquired these two cursed items for the Lich King. We've written a
deep-dive analysis
on this book if you're curious to read more!
Now, in this flashback cinematic, we see the Runecarver was ordered by the Jailer to create the recipe for both the Helm of Domination ("crown fit for the king of the damned") and Frostmourne ("Your finest mourneblade"). If the Runecarver is secretly the Primus, then the Primus has been missing for a very long time as his disappearance would date back to at least the Third War. As Frostmourne was created at the Forge of Domination, it explains why this weapon was infused with the Maw, as revealed when Uther shows his wound to Devos in "Afterlives: Bastion."
