Thrall and Draka Discuss Garrosh's Fate in Korthia
10/08/2021 à 15:22
At the end of the Covenant Campaign in Chains of Domination, Thrall and Draka meet once more, this time discussing Garrosh's fate.
Draka and Thrall discuss Garrosh's legacy in new dialogue added at the end of the covenant campaign. Here, we see Thrall expressing regret for setting Garrosh down the path of Warchief, while Draka tries to comfort him.
Draka: You have told me many stories of your life, Go'el. It seems some of the memories trouble you.
Thrall: Yes, I spoke of Garrosh, son of Grommash Hellscream. I'd hoped to spare him for the darkness his father knew... but instead... I fear I'm to blame for the ruin he unleashed.
Draka: Fate sets a course before each of us. How are you to blame for the destiny he wrought?
Thrall: I took him from Nagrand. I made him Warchief. But when he needed me most, I left him to falter. And in the end, it was my hand that struck him down.
Draka: Your father used to say that a wolf decides whether to come when called or to turn on its master. There is no fault, only nature taking its course. Garrosh chose his path, my son.
Thrall: But I set him upon it.
Draka: You offered him a choice. You did not choose for him. Mourn if you must, but his decisions are not your burden to bear. His path ended. Yours moves onward.
Thrall: Onward...yes. There's much to be done. Thank you, mother.
Garrosh's story ended in Sanctum of Domination, after the Soulrender Dormazain encounter. He's defiant and unrepentant, expressing loyalty to the true Horde and refusing to serve anyone. After being used as a mana battery by Sire Denathrius for so long, Garrosh takes matters into his own hands, breaking free of his prison and defeating Soulrender Dormazain himself in a sacrificial burst of glory--an honorable death on his own terms.
They said I must answer for my crimes...repent for my "sins"... But every choice I made, I would proudly make again. I submit to no one! Not you, not the jailer, and not that coward Thrall!
Garrosh remains true to his character to the end--a flawed hero, one who heroically takes out the boss, but refuses to repent for his crimes on Azeroth. His final words are "For the Horde!" but we have to remember his vision for the Horde excluded most races. He insults Thrall, whom many consider to be a hero, but Thrall's actions towards Garrosh have been interpreted by some in a negative light, such as possibly appointing Garrosh to Warchief without much guidance.
In the fateful mak'gora between Thrall and Garrosh, we can see the contempt and anguish Garrosh feels towards Thrall for appointing him Warchief, as the cinematic strikes a somber, instead of heroic, tone.
The events of that day appear to have haunted Thrall for years, as he vanished for several patches and only returned in Battle for Azeroth, frequently expressing regret for the past. Hopefully with this dialogue, Thrall will have found some closure, giving himself permission to grieve the past yet look forward towards a promising future.
Earlier in the 9.1 Covenant Campaign, Thrall was reunited with Draka in an emotional scene, which you can read about in our Covenant Campaign Synopsis.
