Panthea
The Castle Nathria Raid will release on December 8th / 9th with 10 new bosses. In this article, Panthea analyzes the encounters in Castle Nathria from a Tank perspective, and discusses the strengths and weaknesses of each Tanking spec. If you're on the fence about what Tank to play, this may help you decide on a spec!

Introduction
Tanking in Castle Nathria will be primarily focused on the player's ability to execute the capability of their chosen tank spec rather than the potential power of the tank spec. The damage during raid testing was quite low in comparison to previous raid tiers at the start of an expansion (with the exception of Sludgefist, which has received several rounds of adjustments since then).
It is important to note that no tank spec is too weak to perform at the level required to clear Castle Nathria on Mythic. There is nothing to suggest that any tank would be “unplayable”.

The Encounters of Castle Nathria
Castle Nathria is a 10 boss raid where tanking mechanics are quite diverse and there is a larger level of responsibility placed on the tanks than historical introductory raid tiers.
More detail on all of these encounters can be found on
https://www.tanknotes.com
.
Shriekwing
Entry bosses into a raid are usually mechanically simple. Not this one. This boss focuses around reducing the healing taken by the tanks periodically.
Tanking Uptime:
50%
Positioning:
This will be dictated by your raid strategy. However, your aim will always be to have a safe space near the pillars in the room to get out of Line of Sight of the boss during
Cri assourdissant
.
Damage Intake:
~85% Physical, 15% Shadow. *Note: Mechanics were changed just before Shadowlands launched so this value is speculative, value will be skewed higher to Shadow for Mythic.
Swap on each
Morsure d’exsanguination
. This applies 10 stacks of the
Exsanguiné
bleed, which reduces healing received by 10%, and increases physical damage taken by 5% per stack. You will lose 1 stack of the bleed every 1.5 seconds.
Hide behind a pillar for
Cri assourdissant
.
Avoid being hit by orbs created from
Hurlement résonnant
/
Sonar résonnant
. If you are hit by any of these you will be horrified and trigger
Descente
which deals damage to all players within 5 yards.
On Mythic you will not be able to see any of these orbs unless you are under the effects of
Lanterne de sang
which is the new mythic mechanic. This will be handled by a healer most likely but you need to be affected by it to ensure you do not get hit by the orbs.
Shriekwing Strategy Guide
Huntsman Altimor
This fight will see you facing against the Huntsman and his beasts. There will be one beast active at a time and each of them has different mechanics.
Tanking Uptime:
100%. There will be 2 targets to tank constantly, one for each tank.
Positioning:
In Phase 1 you want the bosses stacked. Phase 2 drag Bargast out for
Lacérer l’âme
and
Ombres de Bargast
. Phase 3 bosses stacked yet again with slight movement to remove stacks of
Pierre écrasante
.
Damage Intake:
~95% Physical, 3% Shadow, 2% Nature
During this encounter, you will be fighting Huntsman Altimor and one of his 3 beasts. The beasts share health with the Huntsman and after each beast dies a new one appears.
Margore
is the first beast, and he has a stacking bleed debuff
Griffes dentelées
.
Bargast
is the second beast. Ensure he is away from the Huntsman for
Lacérer l’âme
, as an add will spawn and move towards the boss. This add needs to be healed to 100% health and if it reaches Huntsman Altimor he will enrage. The health of the add spawned is based on your health %. Tanks with high amounts of magical damage reduction/immunity are very valuable here.
Hecutis
is the final beast. Every time he swings at the tank, he gains a stack of
Pierre écrasante
. These stacks can be removed by moving him but it will trigger
Pierre fracassante
and deal raid-wide damage for each stack of
Pierre écrasante
removed.
Huntsman Altimor Strategy Guide
Hungering Destroyer
This is a single phase encounter where the mechanics are all based around the boss leeching health from the raid.
Tanking Uptime:
50%
Positioning:
You will want to have the boss in a position that allows the raid to spread around it. Before the boss reaches 100 energy, you will want to position it to the side of the room to give the raid space to move.
Damage Intake:
~60% Physical, 40% Shadow.
Each melee swing buffs the boss with a stack of
Faim grandissante
, which increases the amount of health the boss will leech from the tank. When the boss hits a new target they reset. Tank swap to keep these stacks low.
Move the boss to the side of the room for
Consommer
at 100 energy to give the raid more space to move.
Hungering Destroyer Strategy Guide
Artificer Xy’Mox
This is a 3 phase encounter where the boss will do a different key mechanic in each phase. This fight requires frequent positioning changes from the tanks in order to simplify mechanics affecting the entire raid.
Tanking Uptime:
50%
Positioning:
You will ideally want to have the boss positioned to the side of the room and have a portal placed nearby so you can use it to gain distance from the raid with
Glyphe de destruction
.
Damage Intake:
~75% Physical, 20% Arcane, 5% Shadow. There are slight variances in your damage taken based on if mechanics that go on “random” players hit you.
Déchirure dimensionnelle
is the main raid mechanic of this fight. Use the portals from these to cover large distances to blow up your
Glyphe de destruction
.
In each Phase of the encounter a different core mechanic is at play:
Phase 1:
This mechanic has no tank interaction.
Phase 2:
Ensure the boss is tanked in a position that is safe from the
Graine d’extinction
explosion.
Your browser does not support the video tag.
Phase 3:
Ensure you are not inside the
Tranchant d’annihilation
at the end of the cast!
Your browser does not support the video tag.
Artificer Xy'mox Strategy Guide
Sun King’s Salvation
During this encounter you will need to heal Kael’thas to full health. Waves of adds will attempt to overwhelm the raid.
Tanking Uptime:
90%. There will be brief respites from tanking between add waves in Phase 1 if your DPS is high enough.
Positioning:
During Phase 1 your positioning will be rather dynamic to pick up waves of adds. During Phase 2 (Whilst the Shade is active) you will be moving around the room out of
Vestiges fumants
patches.
Damage Intake:
~73% Physical, 25% Fire, 2% Shadow.
Phase 1:
Swap after 2-3 stacks of
Vaincu
and keep threat on the adds spawning. Tanks with abilities to control/gather large groups of mobs excel here, such as Brewmaster Monk with
Invocation d’une statue du Buffle noir
, Blood Death Knight with
Poigne de la mort
/
Emprise de Fielsang
, Vengeance Demon Hunter with
Sigil de chaînes
or Protection Paladin with
Bouclier du vengeur
/
Glas divin
.
Assist your raid with keeping the Soul Infusers away from Kael’thas as the encounter will be prolonged if they reach him.
Phase 2:
Swap on 2-3 stacks of
Vestiges incandescents
and avoid being in front of the boss when you are not actively tanking. Ensure the Shade is not inside/near the Phoenixes as they will leave
Vestiges fumants
behind them.
Sun King's Salvation Strategy Guide
Lady Inerva Darkvein
This boss has 4 mechanics, these 4 mechanics get enhanced as the fight goes on making it more and more hectic.
Tanking Uptime:
60% Whilst the boss is a simple 50/50 split, the Harnessed Spectre adds require a tank and should be taken by the non-boss tank as they apply a debuff which increases damage taken from
Dévoiler les désirs
.
Positioning:
You will aim to keep the boss near the edge of the room so that you can ignore the
Toile d’anima
(when the Container of Sin is at 33% power). When the Concentrated Anima adds spawn, they should be near melee, however if they are not you will need to preposition there as the Harnessed Specter adds are immobile.
Damage Intake:
~50% Physical, 50% Shadow.
Swap after 2 stacks of
Désirs déformés
. When the
Container of Desires
is at 33% power
Dévoiler l’esprit
is active, mitigate your
Dévoiler les désirs
as efficiently as possible, as it replicates damage to other players. When the
Container of Desires
is at 66% power
Dévoiler le cœur
is active, move away from the raid before your
Désirs déformés
stack expires.
When the
Container of Sin
is at 33% power
Toile d’anima
will link the
Péchés du passé
orbs together. Aim to have the boss near the side of the room so that you are never caught in the middle of this.
When the
Container of Concentrated Anima
is at 33% power the players who spawn adds will be
Immobilisation animaïque
so you will either need to move to them or the raid moves to you before this mechanic happens.
On Mythic
Dévoiler les désirs
will spawn
TWO
mobs that will charge at you. If you are not facing this mob it will apply an additional
Désirs déformés
stack.
Lady Inerva Darkvein Strategy Guide
The Council of Blood
Dance boss! There are 3 bosses in this encounter and when one is killed the remaining bosses heal to full and gain a new ability.
Tanking Uptime:
99%. The only time there is nothing to tank are very short periods on the final boss.
Positioning:
You will aim to keep the bosses near each other, but aiming to ensure that Lord Stavros does not charge into the raid with
Fente d’évitement
Damage Intake:
~90% Physical, 10% Shadow. There are also trace amounts of Nature damage. (Mythic: Shadow damage taken will increase from the
Fièvre dansante
mechanic)
Baroness Frieda
- Ensure
Volée de traits d’effroi
is interrupted.
Lord Stavros
- Ensure you are facing a wall, so that when he uses
Fente d’évitement
he charges into the wall. Swap at 2 stacks.
Castellan Niklaus
- Swap at 2 stacks of
Riposte du duelliste
Dance Phase
- When any boss reaches 50% health,
Danse macabre
will trigger. Find your spot on the dance floor or die!
On Mythic, several players in raid will receive stacks of
Fièvre dansante
which will trigger raid wide damage when removed. Be mindful of this as multiple stacks being removed simultaneously or in quick succession may require a personal cooldown used if your health situation is not looking good.
Council of Blood Strategy Guide
Sludgefist
During this fight both tanks will be taking damage every time he hits one tank! Positioning of the boss is also vital to ensure mechanics are executed correctly.
Tanking Uptime:
100% Both tanks will always be hit by the boss (if they are on top of each other). If there is nobody within 5 yards of the main target of the boss he will hit that target twice.
Positioning:
Ensure that Sludgefist is not positioned near any pillars as his regular mechanics can break them prematurely. When he is at full energy he will fixate on a tank and then charge. This charge needs to be aimed at a pillar.
Damage Intake:
100% Physical
All damage dealt to the main tank is dealt to the off-tank via
Poings géants
. A main tank with large amounts of Physical damage reduction are excellent choices on this encounter as the damage dealt to the off-tank is based on the damage the main tank receives.
On
Mythic
every player in the raid will have
Lien de chaîne
. Both tanks will always be linked together. Be very careful with your movement as if you move in opposite directions, one tank is faster than the other, or one tank gets knocked back...you'll both die!
Sludgefist Strategy Guide
Stone Legion Generals
During this fight there will be two bosses, but only one is active at a time for Phase 1 and 2, however you will have adds spawning. In Phase 3 both bosses will be active, but no adds spawn.
Tanking Uptime:
90%. There will be short periods where no adds are available in Phase 1 and 2. In Phase 3 your tanking uptime will be 100%.
Positioning:
This will be dictated by your raid strategy, however your aim will always be to have a space in the room near the bosses for the raid to place the
Lame pernicieuse
,
Éruption réverbérante
and
Combo brise-pierre
mechanics.
Damage Intake:
~60% Physical, 25% Shadow, 15% Nature.
Throughout this fight you will be swapping tanking duties based on debuff stacks from the active boss at the time. In
Phase 1 & 2
this will be on ~2/3 stacks of
Lacération dentelée
or
Poing en pierre
, in
Phase 3
you will need to be more dynamic as both bosses are active at the same time.
The
Combo brise-pierre
is applied to a
non-tank player
and will trigger a series of events around that player. That player will apply
Déflagration cristalline
to all players within 8 yards after a few seconds and all players in this area will split damage from
Météore destructeur
. If you are within the
Déflagration cristalline
you will have all of your bleeds applied by other mechanics in the encounter removed. If you are aiming to remove your bleeds, ensure the other tank is tanking the boss as you do not want to be stunned and tanking the boss at the same time.
Stone Legion Generals Strategy Guide
Sire Denathrius
The final boss of the raid! Each phase will have different mechanics that require differing tank and raid priorities. If you are ever out of range of the boss, they will teleport to you!
Tanking Uptime:
50% (in Phase 2 it is 100% as there are 2 active bosses)
Positioning:
Your positioning in each phase will change. During Phase 1, keep the boss near the edge of the zone you are currently in to allow for easy movement out of
Ravage
. During Phase 2, keep the boss near a mirror to allow for easy movement out of
Main de la destruction
. During Phase 3, keep the boss near the edge of the area to allow for more space to move out of
Main de la destruction
.
Damage Intake:
~65% Physical, 35% Shadow.
Phase 1:
Swap on each cast of
Souffrance purificatrice
Phase 2:
Remornia will now be tankable requiring both it and Denathirus to be tanked. Swap on ~4-6 stacks of
Carnage
Phase 2:
Aim Sire Denathrius towards adds when he casts
Douleur insupportable
on you. This will also apply the debuff to the adds!
Phase 3:
Remornia is wielded by Denathirus and you will swap on ~4-6 stacks of
Dédain
Sire Denathrius Strategy Guide
Overall Tank Thoughts on Castle Nathria
I think that this is a strong raid for tanking. It really lets the tanks be the stars of some fights as boss positioning is important. Being able to play your tank effectively will definitely be noticed by your healers as the mechanics for the most part have a pass/fail mechanism behind them (Moving Bargast out on Huntsman Altimor, facing the correct way on Lady Inerva Darkvein, having Sire Denathirus in the correct locations in each Phase to name a few).
There was a concern during the Beta cycle that the bosses could have their bleed mechanics negated via a Kyrian's
Flasque de sérénité
or a Dwarf's
Forme de pierre
. The raid mechanics were adjusted after the majority of raid testing to not be able to be removed with these tools. More information on this can be found
here
.
Tanks Categorized
Instead of a tier list of sorts, I will instead provide an overview of each tank; their strengths, weaknesses, what they bring to the raid for Castle Nathria, and finally a short summary of my thoughts about each tank.
The reason for this is simply that there is no real reason outside of
early progress
to favor one tank over another, as in this environment strengths of each tank can be leveraged against low item level. Whilst there would be advantages/disadvantages to picking any number of tank combinations these gains would be minor at best, and the value of the
player
is much higher than the tank.
Blood Death Knight
Strengths
Weaknesses
Utility
• Very high amounts of self healing with
Frappe de mort
• Can negate magic effects via
Carapace anti-magie
• Raid wide damage reduction via
Zone anti-magie
• Grips! (
Poigne de la mort
&
Emprise de Fielsang
)
• Takes time to be tanky as it needs to build resources in the first few GCDs of the encounter
• Low Mobility
•
Poigne de la mort
•
Emprise de Fielsang
•
Zone anti-magie
• Combat Res with
Réanimation d'un allié
• Ranged Kick with
Gel de l'esprit
Overall Thoughts:
As the tank damage is relatively low this tier (from testing) Blood Death Knights are in a relatively strong position. The self sustain ability comes primarily from executing the rotation well, an inability to do this successfully will turn the Strength of the tank into a Weakness.
Many bosses:
Where there are periods of magic burst damage on the raid
Zone anti-magie
will mitigate these.
Hungering Destroyer:
Avancée de la mort
will prevent the knockback from
Faille anéantissante
(Heroic/Mythic mechanic) allowing you to soak multiple with ease.
Artificer Xy’mox:
Carapace anti-magie
can prevent
Glyphe de destruction
from applying.
Artificer Xy’mox:
Robustesse glaciale
can be used to clear
Piège de stase
Lady Inerva Darkvein:
Carapace anti-magie
can negate
Volte-face
entirely.
Sun King’s Salvation:
Poigne de la mort
,
Emprise de Fielsang
,
Chaînes de glace
can all be used to control the Soul Infusers.
Sire Denathirus:
If you pre-cast
Avancée de la mort
for the Intermission you will not be slowed.
Protection Paladin
Strengths
Weaknesses
Utility
• High amounts of raid utility (see utility)
• High amount of
Bouclier du vertueux
uptime
• High DPS!
• Very frequent interrupts!
• Off-healing potential
• Immunity with
Bouclier divin
• Casting
Mot de gloire
either costs you Holy Power which is a direct loss of
Bouclier du vertueux
uptime, or is infrequent as you will be waiting for
Lumière rayonnante
stacks to make it free.
• At lower haste levels can have gaps in
Bouclier du vertueux
uptime, making it temporarily squishy
• Low mobility
• Auras!
•
Bénédiction de protection
/
Bénédiction de protection des sorts
•
Bénédiction de liberté
•
Bénédiction de sacrifice
• Ranged Interrupt via
Bouclier du vengeur
• Offhealing via
Mot de gloire
during tanking downtime
• Poison & Disease removal with
Purification des toxines
Overall Thoughts:
As the tank damage is relatively low this tier (from testing) the historical weaknesses of Protection Paladin are not currently an issue. You can play with a high DPS, high utility tank with little sacrifice.
Many Bosses:
Fights with lower percentages of tanking uptime can allow you to offheal targets with your free
Mot de gloire
casts from
Lumière rayonnante
.
Shriekwing:
Exsanguiné
can be removed by
Bénédiction de protection
+
Bouclier divin
.
Huntsman Altimor:
Bénédiction de protection des sorts
+
Bouclier divin
can negate
Lacérer l’âme
entirely.
Hungering Destroyer:
Bénédiction de protection des sorts
+
Bouclier divin
can be used to clear
Faille anéantissante
(Heroic/Mythic).
Artificer Xy’mox:
Bénédiction de protection des sorts
+
Bouclier divin
can prevent
Glyphe de destruction
from applying.
Artificer Xy’mox:
Bénédiction de protection des sorts
+
Bouclier divin
can be used to clear
Piège de stase
.
Lady Inerva Darkvein:
Bénédiction de protection des sorts
+
Bouclier divin
can negate
Volte-face
entirely.
Brewmaster Monk
Strengths
Weaknesses
Utility
• Takes very little up-front damage via
Report
• Applies
Toucher mystique
• High amounts of self-absorbs via
Breuvage céleste
• High mobilty
• Low DPS
• Lowest max health of any tank making them susceptible to damage over time effects
•
Toucher mystique
•
Anneau de paix
/
Invocation d’une statue du Buffle noir
• Increasing boss movement speed with
Persiflage
•
Paralysie
•
Fracas
to move enemies
• Poison & Disease removal with
Détoxification
Overall Thoughts:
The historical strengths of Brewmaster are still present, and the addition of
Breuvage céleste
has only made this stronger. The fact that Windwalker and Mistweaver are considered weak competitive raiding specs means that a Brewmaster can feel somewhat mandatory for groups wanting to apply
Toucher mystique
, which is quite disappointing. I expect to see representation for Brewmaster Monk to remain high as many players have grown a certain level of comfort towards the tank and raid teams have not accommodated for a Windwalker/Mistweaver to provide
Toucher mystique
.
Huntsman Altimor:
Breuvage céleste
will be available for each
Lacérer l’âme
cast, you can also
Méditation zen
/
Boisson fortifiante
/
Atténuation du mal
to further enhance the benefits and ensure the add spawns on high or full health.
Huntsman Altimor:
Paralysie
works as a CC for the
Ombres de Bargast
.
Sun King’s Salvation:
Invocation d’une statue du Buffle noir
is great for gathering initial threat on the waves of adds that spawn in Phase 1 of the encounter.
Sludgefist:
Brewmaster is the
best
main tank option for this encounter and will significantly reduce the damage on the co-tank.
Guardian Druid
Strengths
Weaknesses
Utility
• High health
• Self healing
• With
Volonté de l’ordre naturel
they can be the most defensive tank option
• High DPS tank via weaving between forms.
• Strengths depend on the choice of covenant of the player
• Low DPS if you do not weave between forms.
• Raid mobility boost with
Ruée rugissante
• Combat res with
Renaissance
•
Vortex d’Ursol
(Resto affinity)
•
Typhon
(Balance affinity)
•
Enchevêtrement de masse
• Poison & Curse removal with
Délivrance de la corruption
• Enrage removal with
Apaiser
Overall Thoughts: Guardian Druid has the opportunity for more complexity via weaving in other forms with Heart of the Wild/Affinities.The spec as a whole is very forgiving from a tanking perspective. Easy to learn the basics, difficult to master the complexities.
Many bosses:
Ruée rugissante
can help with raid movement.
Huntsman Altimor:
Hibernation
works as a CC for the
Ombres de Bargast
.
Sun King’s Salvation:
Vortex d’Ursol
/
Typhon
to keep the Soul Infusers away from Kael’thas.
Enchevêtrement de masse
will also work but will break quickly from damage.
Council of Blood:
Should any add die near Castellan Niklaus (if he is the last boss) he will be enraged. This can be removed with
Apaiser
.
Sludgefist:
Guardian Druid is a very strong main tank option for this encounter and will significantly reduce the damage on the co-tank.
Vengeance Demon Hunter
Strengths
Weaknesses
Utility
• Can have high amounts of AoE DPS with certain builds.
• Applies
Marque du chaos
• Fairly consistent amount of self healing.
• High mobility
• Passive damage reduction (enhanced further via
Encre visqueuse
)
• Limited uptime on
Pointes démoniaques
can lead to spikes in damage taken (this can be countered with the
Marque enflammée
build but it comes at the cost of DPS)
• Low DPS on Single Target
•
Marque du chaos
• Sigils! (
Sigil de silence
,
Sigil de supplice
, Grip)
• Purge with
Manavore
•
Emprisonnement
• Ranged Interrupt with
Ébranlement
Overall Thoughts:
Vengeance Demon Hunter has always sat on the cusp of being a great tank and once again in my opinion it sits on that same spot. All of the historic weaknesses remain, however their strengths have been bolstered via the systems in Shadowlands.
Huntsman Altimor:
Emprisonnement
works as a CC for the
Ombres de Bargast
.
Huntsman Altimor:
Strong option for tanking Bargast as very effectively mitigate the damage from
Lacérer l’âme
with
Marque enflammée
Sun King’s Salvation:
Sigil of Chains and
Sigil de supplice
can be used to control the Soul Infusers.
Protection Warrior
Strengths
Weaknesses
Utility
•
Maîtrise du blocage
provides you with a very high amount of Physical damage reduction when active
•
Renvoi de sort
can reflect or negate mechanics
• High mobility
• Low DPS
• Can be susceptible to prolonged periods of magic damage
•
Cri de guerre
•
Cri de ralliement
•
Intervention
can be used on other players as a low cooldown external
Overall Thoughts:
Warriors unfortunately did lose a lot of their DPS power going into Shadowlands, however their defensive power remains intact.
Renvoi de sort
and
Maîtrise du blocage
are both very potent defensive tools. Protection Warrior has the ability to provide Battle Shout should your raid be missing a Fury or Arms warrior, as there are no scrolls to provide missing buffs having it in a tank slot is a relatively low risk way of providing it. Protection Warrior also provides the raid group with an additional
Cri de ralliement
if you do have a DPS Warrior which is always valuable.
Many Bosses:
Cri de ralliement
will be useful for periods of high raid damage.
Many Bosses:
Intervention
can be used as a low cooldown external for your co-tank.
Artificer Xy’mox:
Étincelle hyperluminique
can be reflected back to the boss with
Renvoi de sort
and stop further bounces.
Lady Inerva Darkvein:
Renvoi de sort
can reflect
Volte-face
back to the boss (thus negating the mechanic).
Tanking Composition Thoughts
With all of the above in mind, I believe that in Castle Nathria we will see less of what we saw in Battle for Azeroth which was Brewmaster Monk dominance. The strengths of some tanks have been bolstered, weaknesses have not been expanded on. There should be more variety in tanking compositions both at the high end and at more conventional progression levels.
Tanks I Expect to See More of in Castle Nathria
Blood Death Knight
- A very popular pick during the Beta cycle and has continued to be popular during the pre-raid period. The raid does not focus on the weaknesses of Blood (with the exception of Sludgefist) and Blood now has a raid cooldown in the form of
Zone anti-magie
.
Protection Paladin
- This has been a very popular pick during the pre-raid period due to the high amount of DPS you can do on it. Likewise, the historical issues this spec has had in early expansion raiding are not an issue as Protection Paladin can maintain high amounts of
Bouclier du vertueux
uptime.
Guardian Druid
- Guardian Druid during the beta cycle has gone from zero to hero, once it was seen how well it can perform in Keystone Masters popularity of the spec has risen. In the right hands can both be a high DPS tank and a sturdy one.
Vengeance Demon Hunter
- This was a very popular spec during the Beta cycle, however at the end of the Beta cycle the strength it had there was reduced significantly. That being said, I would still expect to see more of them due to the current weakness of Havoc and raid teams needing to keep the
Marque du chaos
debuff.
Tanks I Expect to See Less of in Castle Nathria
Protection Warrior
- A lot of the popularity of Protection Warrior was directly tied to its Mythic+ strength. That strength has been neutered and as a result of that I would expect to see fewer Protection Warriors.
Brewmaster Monk
- Whilst they are still a strong tank, I would expect to see fewer guilds use double brewmaster as their go-to tank composition. With other tanks now not being as weak of a choice in comparison more diversity in tanking compositions is expected. Guilds will likely also keep using one just to maintain the
Toucher mystique
debuff.
Closing Thoughts
You can play any tank as long as you play it well.
The meta for tanking is primarily defined by what will allow you to make the fewest mistakes from your ability to play it and your ability to survive. If you re-roll to another tank and cannot play it well, this may require an additional healer to your raid setup and ultimately this leads to less raid efficiency.
With all of the above in mind, all tank specs bring something of value to the progression environment to the raid, and as long as they are played well no tank spec will be a burden to your raid team.
