WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-Up
Hello! Welcome to the 138th edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!
My name is
Samadan
and I am a content creator focusing on making gold using Professions and
TSM
. I have a number of guides over on
YouTube
and I also stream my adventures on
Twitch
.
Shadowlands Professions
More updates were investigated this week, this time focusing on
Relics of the Past
. These are new items that each armour profession (Tailoring, Leatherworking and Blacksmithing) can make. There are 5 different levels of them and they can be used as optional reagents to upgrade the item level of many old expansion crafts. For every expansion, there are a new set of 5 which require different material to create.
These are a great idea for making older professions more relevant and I'd love to see these expanded upon with the potential of making them even higher item level beyond 100. There are so many old world sets that could be useful again beyond mere transmog.
The curious thing is these Relics are not soul bound, they can be traded. They are also not restricted to that particular armour type or expansion, so they are very much interchangable. This opens up a wide variety of possibilities of using the cheapest materials possible to upgrade old world items with the potential for selling them to a vendor for more gold than the cost of materials to make them.
For example, I could make a
Relic of the Past V
with either
Tempest Hide
,
Deep Sea Satin
or
Runecloth
amongst other things. The full table for Relic Level V is below ...
Expansion
Tailoring
Leatherworking
Blacksmithing
BfA
Deep Sea Satin
Tempest Hide
Storm Silver Ore
Legion
Imbued Silkweave
Stonehide Leather
Felslate
Draenor
Sumptuous Fur
Raw Beast Hide
True Iron Ore
Pandaria
Bolt of Windwool Cloth
Exotic Leather
Kyparite
Cataclysm
Bolt of Embersilk Cloth
Heavy Savage Leather
Elementium Ore
Northrend
Bolt of Imbued Frostweave
Heavy Borean Leather
Saronite Ore
Outland
?? 64 TEST Green Gun
Heavy Knothide Leather
Fel Iron Ore
Vanilla
Runecloth
Rugged Leather
Thorium Ore
The potential for vendor flips here is an interesting aspect and I'm sure the markets of the above items will be affected for a little while as we investigate options. Please be aware, this is still early and things are likely to change, so speculate at your own risk!
The theory sounds great, but with testing on the Beta at the moment, many older world crafts that have an optional reagent slot to upgrade them to item level 100 don't actually upgrade to that level. Often, it is far lower. For example
Tidespray Linen Pant
s are supposed to be item level 52, but when you craft them without any extra reagents become ilevel 24. Putting a Level V Relic on makes no difference. Here are a few others I tested ...
Frostwoven Robe
- 23
Spiritmend Robe
- 31
Silkweave Robe
- 18
Silkweave Pantaloons
- 34
Hexweave Robe
- 22
Shadoweave Pants
- 45
Black Mageweave Robe
- 45
Tuxedo Pants
- 4
Sumptuous Robes
- 29
There are so many items with optional reagents, it will take some time to find any that go all the way to 100. It would make more sense if perhaps they scaled with expansions, but that is not the case. Pandaria Cloth items seem to scale to 100, but I can find very few others. If you find any, please do let us know.
Personally, I would rather the vendor price be kept minimal and the item level increased, so we have potential to sell older items that would be actually useful to other players rather than a vendor. That would make for some very interesting markets.
Enchanting
In other Shadowlands Profession news. Enchanting has an interesting turn with the base materials. You can convert them upwards to the rarest item as well as shatter them into lower variations. With the previous two expansions, you would shatter the less common into the more common and thus keep the price of the rarest ones high due to their difficulty in obtaining them. By making this applicable both ways, the prices are likely to be more even as all will be equally obtainable.

Engineering Auctioneer
Also, there has been the addition of a
Holographic Auctioneer
useable by Engineers only, so a good reason to have at least one Engineer on your team.
Shadowlands Speed Sets
WTBGold
has a new video going through Shadowlands Speed Sets and how things have changed, a highly useful video for those who want to move as fast as possible ...
Interesting on his note about optional reagents and speed sets as recently these have been taken out as Reckles suggested, so I wonder how this will pan out once it all develops? Again, still early days yet, but exciting to discover just how fast we can go!
Timeline of the PTR
With the
release of the pre-patch on the PTR
, the clock is really ticking now if you are aiming to get your Brutosaur before it moves to the Black Market Auction House. Speculation for a release date for the pre-patch puts it at 4-5 weeks from the date it goes on the PTR, so that gives us until roughly the mid-end September as far as a guess goes.
There still appears to be a lot of things to iron out as this will be a fairly major squish which affects the entire game and all the expansions before.
Either way, please do not despair or resort to extending beyond healthy limits of playing the game. Even if you don't get the Brutosaur, you will be in a strong position with liquid gold to be able to make use of changing markets as the new expansion releases. There are exciting times ahead.
Goblin Glider Kits
One of the things many have been asking is will
Goblin Glider Kits
work in Shadowlands?
I can confirm, yes. Yes they do!
More Server Merges
Blizzard continue to merge servers
on both EU and NA with some larger ones coming together now. Some are still experiencing issue with past mergers not being able to see auctions from elsewhere nor join guilds.
u/tuazo
shares their experience with a recent merge ..
TL;DR your server's economy and AH ecosystem are going to be shockingly different after the realm mergers. This can be both good and bad depending if you are a buyer or seller. Be prepared to make changes to your selling style.
So it has been a week since my server Silvermoon-Mok’Nathal was merged and wanted to shared what has happened since. Prior to the merger prices for most everything were fairly constant day-to-day. Once in a wile someone would drop their stock which made for a great flip. Undercutting was very rare, most people respected and posted at the current market price.
A week later, Herbs market tanked (including Anchor Weed which had been selling around 60 g and now is in the 40s) with people emptying their bags into the AH. Sames goes for Ores and skins (except Blood-Stained Bones). I had been doing well flipping Anchor Weed, but now people are posting heaps of it non-stop. The plus side to this is cheap inks for contracts (also crashed but still making some gold) and war scrolls. I suppose the servers which merged with us either didn't see much activity on the AH or there were a multi-boxers (something we didn't see much of prior).
Okay completion is good and especially if you don't want to farm. I am still making contracts, war scrolls, bladders and mount shoes along with the stirrups and hoof-plates. Coarse Leather Brading are worthless selling around 70 silver. Even still selling Uncanny Weapons for some gold (not as much as before). So there are more people buying which is good. But there are the people are selling...undercutting is out-of-control. I'll post Anchor Weed or Azsharine or Runes and come back 10-minutes later and there are 5 other posts each for 1-silver less. The worst though is cut gems such the Deadly Lava Lazuli and Quick Sand Spinel both of which sell great at over 100 g. Post a small batch and come back later and again multiple 1-silver undercuts and then someone decides 'let me get rid of my over-stock for silver on the gold'. So now we have 50+ priced around 30 g. Seriously, you are selling the cut version for half the price of the uncut. I've been tempted to reset, but with all the undercuts and having to re-post the deposits would eat out most if any profits. I should be surprised when Osmenite Ore is selling for less than 10 g. I've heard these horror stories from folks on other realms, but had never bear witness to such a travesty unit now.
I loved War Front turn-ins, good gold to be had posting after server reset. Used to be small quantities posted and cheap enough to flip (or I could buy mats cheap and craft). Now again it is people posting mass quantities and tanking the price. Great if you need to buy the items for your alts, not so much if you are trying to flip. Akundra's Bite was one of yesterdays turn-ins prior to merger was selling at 10+ gold, bought over 3K yesterday at 2.80 gold. Made tons of ink (most of which hasn't sold, so will likely use it for contracts and war scrolls).
I am not in the hunt for the Longboi, but I feel for those on the Silvermoon-Mok’Nathal server who are making their gold via the AH and are still n the hunt I have needed to adjust some of my selling habits including vending some items that use to auction as the posting deposits will quickly overtake whatever profit there was.
Has your server been merged? What have your experiences been?
