I started playing in Cata so I only spent a brief period of time while leveling popping in and out of Dalaran, and while I explored it a bit I never knew about a lot of the stuff mentioned in this article! Really brings home how sad "capital" cities have been since then. I really hope the details and flavor texts (like the way the different profession shops are all, you know, different) carry thru into the new expansion, and make it a place you'd like to explore instead of merely a waystation. Also, my GM likes to hold monthly raffles, and his favorite place to get us together and hand out prizes is the Alliance inn in Dalaran (we're a Horde guild on a PVE server lol - that probably would not work too well on a PVP server)
A level 100+ Children's Week quest, new orphans, and new pets! ^^
Sadly and regretfully, I never took advantage of all these fun side options during Wrath. I was far to obsessed with raiding and tiering out to care about the little things that add so much character to the game. Damn you WoW for having so many options!
@drjeckylAh! I feel ya I have jaina's locket in my bags just for that
After reading this, I declare Dalaran the most beautiful, fun and complete city of all. Dalaran and its lore is the reason why I started my Arcane Mage before it was cool :v all Mages were grinding the Frost spec and doubting the Fire one /hipster mode is off
Great article, but it made me really sad. It makes me really miss WoW Insiders "Know Your Lore" column. Good times.
I just want a gnome to shine my shoes...And a toy vendor.
Really? what about a memorial for all the innocents the horde has killed? how about a memorial to the people of Southshore? how about one for the People of Theramore? how about one for the Druids in Stonetalon mountains? how about one for the pandaren and all others that died in the vale? how about one for any of those?
By all means, petition Blizzard to update Azeroth with memorials at Southshore and Theramore. I'd love to see older zones get updates every expansion.Just make sure you also include memorials at Camp Taraujo and the ruins of the concentration camps in Hillsbrad Foothills. Then we'll need a cinematic or in-game event of Genn Greymane apologizing for sending troops into Forsaken territory without prior provocation. Good thing Sylvanas isn't a murdering psycho and found a way to end the conflict without letting the violence spill outside of her lands; I'm looking forward to seeing her get a medal for averting a world war.Once the award ceremony is over, we can move on to the next point: the trial of Jaina Proudmoore. Garrosh paid for his crimes at Theramore, just like the orc in charge of the atrocities at Ashenvale was executed for his wrongdoing. Yet Jaina is out on the streets, a danger to herself and others. When do her victims' families get to see justice?
I can only hope Blizzard create a whole new Dalaran for Legion, not just a boring copy with minor changes.
I loved Dalaran as a capital city and kept my hearth there as long as the portals to the other capital cities were there. Dalaran had so much character and you can tell a lot of time and thought was put into it. I hope the same for the next incarnation of Dalaran. The mammoth and bear parades were so much fun, you don't really see a lot of that in the current game.
