I doubt they'll remove factions any time soon. Not because "the faction conflict is core to Warcraft" because it isn't. It's because "faction pride" is an amazing marketing tool used to push merchandise.Now what will probably happen is breaking them up into smaller factions. It's seemed like the obvious move for a while now and WC3:Reforged solidified it. They're pretty clearly building up to factions that mirror the WC3 factions and I would be shocked if that doesn't happen soon. For PvE purposes they'll, hopefully, let us play with anyone but for story purposes there will be, at least, four factions. Early gameplay would most likely stay unaffected unless they plan on doing another world revamp - you won't be able to quest in Durotar as a gnome or in Azuremyst as a zandalari. It would only affect post-BfA quests/content.
The issue is that Blizzard employees are not 1980s metalheads anymore. They're fancy hipsters playing pokemon go and candy crush saga.
The faction divide as it is can't go on, or next expansion will have maybe three Alliance guilds stubbornly sticking it out in top-end raiding, and after that, what? The only way to go forward is to loosen the A/H divide. Lore aside, the game cannot survive as it is going. And if we're breaking down the Alliance and Horde *mechanically* for the players, we kind of need some reason in-world or it's lazy and dissonant (lack of) writing. Don't worry, you'll still be able to kill all the dirty Alliance you want; they're not gonna take away pvp. But even in this expansion alone they had to implement emergency systems to convince Alliance players to play War Mode when they were so outnumbered. For the good of the game, the faction divide has to be downgraded extensively. I'm not sure how they'll implement it, but it really has to be done.
I think Sylvanas isn't going to die, she's going to probably be imprisoned somewhere. Like in Xal'atah or trapped in the Other Side by Bwonsamdi, etc. (who I predict MIGHT die in the near future, due to Sylvanas throwing a fit on how she wants to 'master' death). But who knows?
We can break much down to "What's next?"There isn't much left. -We have actually the Sylvanas conflict. That one must be explained in BfA so it may lead to Sylvanas be the last boss of this expansion. -Then there is N'Zoth. He want to raise the black empire once again. Considering that Sylvanas planned her actions so that the factions will unite to opose N'Zoth and his empire, maybe with a ressurected C'Thun, Yogg'Saron and Y'Shaarj under his command, it will make sense that she is even willing to let her life on the way leaving Nathanos in charge of the forsaken.But after that? Sargeras escaping his prison so we can fight him for real this time? The undefinable void which will ever exist 'cause the light exist? It would make sense that blizzard will close the story of warcraft within the next one or two expansions and it will most likely end with peace between the factions.
end of the factions? nothing will be the same, but I think it will be worse and more chaotic than this war, besides ...and Blizzard are you copying from other MMOs that would not be necessary for a great game of this size? make neutral even more, I do not think it's a very good idea.
It would be a bold move by Blizzard to remove the factions, or realign them into a new "vs" model. If they did that and made a compelling story for it I would probably return, so I shall wait and see.
So my gut feeling was right. They want to kill factions...Yes this will most likely happen. Classic is perfectly timed to be released this year so they can now mess with the very core features of WoW without too much backslash. All the whiners (such as myself) who would say something like "factions are what makes World of Warcraft!" can go screw themselves and play Classic if they don't like the new WoW.
Before it finally died, Wildstar introduced inter-faction queuing to alleviate the problem of there not always being enough players to get a full group. The factions weren't eliminated, it just became possible for mixed groups to do instances. I think Blizzard may be considering something similar. They might also utilize Warmode to create a hybrid system; i.e. Warmode Off you can group with players of the opposing faction, Warmode On, well, WARMODE ON. I hope that something like this is what's happening, because the other alternatives (eliminating the factions entirely or adding a neutral faction) are terrible ideas for reasons other posters have already mentioned.For what it's worth, as a fan of the original RTS games, if the factions are eliminated (or made entirely irrelevant) I will almost certainly quit WoW (for good this time, lol).

False. Thrall and garrosh have already fought a mak'gora during the Scourge Invasion (pre-Wrath event); Thrall spammed thunder Bolt the entire time, and no one batted an eye. There is no rule against magic in a mak'gora.
Lol teaming up with one another would spit in every Night Elf/Zandalari fan/ and player's face, It would be great if the Alliance sets fire to Thunderbluff.
You know what I haven't forgotten is where Jaina Warcrime Proudmore killed innocent citizens of Dalaran who lived in that city longer than her life span. The worst part of BFA is that I could not join the one NPC who remembers that event so I could kill her when freeing Baine.
I really like the idea of shaking up factions.It's a simplistic dichotomy that was imposed for good reason, no doubt, but the game has evolved so much (in more ways than just the story) and it feels like it has begun to outgrow it.
