Simple make them like Essence but with cooldown. Once you've changed a conduit you cant change it again for x hours
So they made a other system so controversial without actually knowing how it would work well? And they expect us to believe that the covenant system wont be a other corruption, essence, azerite legendary mess? They keep claiming the ''going back to the rpg root'' as a excuse for having a choice while being so stubborn about system that make power balance out of hand and make gearing so far from the standard rpgmmo feeling...
Now only to detach covenant abilities from the fluff hard choice covenants and reimplement it as an essence-like system - easily switchable in any rested area in preparation for different types of content, and the game might actually be ready for beta.
I dont really care either way, but it seems just ripping off the essence system with a cooldown is the easiest solution
This is good news! I am glad they see that destroying them is just gonna make them too grindy. gj blizz
This is at least a step in the right direction, if we can't get some lenience with covenant abilities, the least they could do is make conduits less of a grinding relics situation like back in legion. I'd be fine with a moderate CD between switching them out, or only being able to change them in your sanctum.
Just make it like Warmode where you have to be in your capital city to change them. That way, you couldn't just use a tome before each boss or whatever. Then allow them to be removed and put in bank, but make them a little more rare than they would have been when destructible so we don't get a million of them sitting around.
I agree that the CD is a possible solution. I also have an alternate suggestion. Perhaps instead of making changing difficult, incentivise not changing conduits without a degree of care. That is, make it possible but instead of punishing players for changing, instead reward them for sticking with their chosen conduits. The way I would do this (in the hypothetical world where I am a WoW dev) would be to give conduits an attunement property. That is for every day a conduit remains in a slot (say up to three days) it gains increased potency. As an example, imagine a conduit increased the damage of spell X by +3% when unattuned, +6% after 24 hours and by +9% after 48 hours. You are now in a position where players can play around with their conduits, settle on something that works for them and then reward them for sticking with it. It also mitigates the switching problem, as it would be hard to imagine an unattuned conduit being able to outclass a fully attuned one. Thoughts?
Giving it a CD would just force people to have 3~4 characters of the same class.
It's difficult to suggest a system given: they want you to be able to change conduits, but not frequently; not every dungeon; every raid; every pvp battle. They want some form of customisation, but it depends on their goal:Suggestion(s) given their goal:- If their goal is to change conduits based on spec be easier:- Then reset conduits for each soulbind, when you change spec. So, if Affliction, plop in conduits. Change to Demo, those affliction conduits will be gone from that slot for the soulbind and placed in your inventory. Now, you can put in any demonology conduits. When you change back to affliction, the demonology conduits will be gone and placed into your inventory, but the affliction ones are back. NOTE: this would mean any currently placed conduits for a spec cannot be sold or destroyed until they are removed from the conduit slot.- If their goal is to change conduits after doing some weekly content- You fill up a Renown or Anima bar for the week, then you can remove individual conduits and place them in your inventory. Do that a max of 1 conduits per week.- if their goal is to change conduits after doing tons of content for the week.- Unlock 1 conduit remover from weekly chest, that increases based on how much content you've done that week. Max of 2 conduit removers per week. The conduit remover places the conduit into the player's inventory.- if their goal is to change conduits after doing a raid or mythic dungeon. - Unlock conduit remover from bonus loot of a raid boss or end of mythic+ dungeon cache. There's a chance it may contain conduit remover. Max of 1 per week.- If their goal is to avoid being optimal in every situation:- Old conduits are replaced and not destroyed. But, the old conduit will have a cooldown that will be activated once it enters your inventory.- Once you slot in a conduit, the previous conduit cannot be slotted in for another 5 days. - Each conduit has their own 'cooldown' that cannot be slotted in for a number of days.- Doing some content may allow you to 'speed' up the cooldown on the conduit.- Limit of replacing 2 conduits per week- Example: if a conduit is best for dungeons, then doing some high end dungeons will reduce the cooldown of the conduit by 6 hours, changing based on how difficult the dungeon is.- Alternative: The cooldown scales based on the amount of conduits currently on cooldown. First conduit you replace could have a 2 day cooldown. The second conduit you replace could have 3 day cooldown; third could have 5 day cooldown; and so forth.- Second Alternative: The conduit slot could have the cooldown instead of the conduit its self. So if you replace a conduit in Slot A, then Slot A will go on cooldown. But, you can still replace a conduit in slot B
