Great write-up, much appreciated!I've mained hunter since Vanilla and have been pretty happy with the state of BM. I feel that the 2 second revive pet is pretty OP, especially in PvP. I always laugh when a player kills my pet - I just revive it in the blink of an eye and it's back to full health attacking the enemy! That said, a 4 second cast time might be too long; maybe 2.5 - 3 seconds? Other options are to make pets tougher to kill, or maybe they need to build up to full strength for a few seconds after being revived.
The 4 sec Revive Pet is really terrible and can result in BM not being viable in most competitive content.2,5 sec is still acceptable, or 3 sec if hunter would be able to cast while moving and suffer no pushing backs.Putting 6 sec in beta is clearly a cheap strategy to make people accept 4 sec easier! So people have the illusion they are winning something, while in fact they are losing in a proportion of 100% (2 to 4sec!).
ITT people are raging about balance and sub-optimal performance, but clearly skimmed the part of the article that stated Blizz has NOT YET done the balance pass in Beta and, as mentioned in the article, Blizz has NOT YET given Hunters their leveling passive spell ranks like other classes have gotten. Once they do, you will very likely see Cobra Shot's Focus cost reduced and you might even see the channel time on Rez Pet reduced for BM. You'll have to be max level to get these ranks, but they'll be there eventually.
Really sad to hear that the Night Fae ability isn't working well for hunters. I've wanted Night Fae to be my covenant since Blizzcon, but I don't want to feel like I'm being punished for it. I hope they fix it for hunters before launch...
just played in ptr and have to say hunter sucks.regarding BM if nothing is changed im gonna change my main.yes bad pet management should be punished but not this badly. also if that was true why some classes have gotten buffs to their Survivability. like furry warriors whom gotten ignore pain. but since the beginning of this expansion we've only seen nerfs and bad changes. also these changes have reduced the unique feeling of hunter fantasy specially BM. for example in legion i could have 4 to 5 animal companion at times and it was fun. the more pets I had the better. but right now it feels stale and boring.while warlocks got their curses back we got eyes of the beast which has no use, arcane shot while we've already have cobra shot, kill shot while we have kill command. Tranquilizing Shot while we had our pets for that. that was part of pet management.revive pet with 4 sec cast is a disaster. a good chunk of our dps depends on pets if they're gone it's useless. at least make it non-interruptible. maybe make it so that if a pet dies the revive pet bring the next pet in line with a 10 sec cooldown to revive the previous one. but no they chose the easiest option and nerfed he hell out of BM.with each expansion the changes to hunter have been a collective negative. we need a rework or overhaul. my guess is a lot of hunters are gonna change mains with the current situation. probably shaman, now that IS a fun class.
It's painful to see the people in the comments here who clearly must do nothing but world quests and aren't on the beta. Pets die in high content. It's not a constant thing, but it happens regularly (also, the suggestion to use misdirect to keep your pet from dying on Carapace is freaking hilarious. BM's misdirection doesn't do squat since our pet's dps doesn't count towards the misdirection and the pet does more damage than we do, particularly in aoe, so MD doesn't keep aggro off our pets). Doubling our rez time on pets is a huge problem. I'll note that I've spent some time leveling a premade without my main's massive gear. The pet dies pretty frequently in world content with low gear (and gear doesn't come very fast in leveling). They are so squishy. And while with a two second rez cast, you might be able to take the hits from the mob/mobs while you're getting the pet up, with the pet rez timer as it is now, you pretty much have to turtle in order to survive. "Just feign," isn't an answer. That means the mob resets and you have to do it all over again. Sure if it's some measly non-elite, no problem, but the regular mobs like that don't kill your pet. Named quest mobs, elites, that sort of thing...they do kill your pet, even with mend pet up constantly, even with cycling in exhilaration when possible. It's quite clear that those of you that think the rez cast time increase isn't a problem don't know what you're talking about. Positioning your pet differently doesn't save them (it's not regular aoe killing them, deaths from positioning haven't happened since the middle of Wrath). Keeping mend pet up constantly doesn't save them (it doesn't do enough healing). Expecting your healers to heal them doesn't save them (if you're in the kind of content that kills your pet through randomly targeted abilities, the pet usually goes down too fast and the healers have enough on their plates to not be able to spare the heals. I can assure you my healers have my pet visible on their bars and heal him when they can and it doesn't stop him from dying in M+ to randomly targeted non-aoe abilities). Not one of your oh-so-helpful suggestions actually has any relevance in the kind of content where pets die when they don't have aggro.
