I thought they said they wouldn't replace named NPCs and would only add new ones?...I guess I personally don't care that much, but changing existing characters is definitely going to upset some people (assuming I'm understanding this correctly).

Their clothes are way too low res to mesh nicely with the high res skin and hair textures. Some of them look a bit unnatural. If they want to go the full mile they should at least update the stuff they are wearing also.
Terrible idea to change named NPCs. Guards and other non-specific characters, NEW NPCs, would have been totally fine and cool. But really? A Night Elf getting a different facial hair is a bit different than a Human turning a whole other race.Way to go Blizz, to handle the otherwise good idea in the most insensitive and senseless way possible.
Neat!
Should add new characters, instead of changing existing ones. And the perfect time to do so would be with the plague event for pre-patch. Have the ghouls kill off old npcs (that they wanted to replace) and bring in the new ones. Move the collective story forward with new characters instead of changing identities of existing ones. I for one am pretty tired of seeing the same 3 ladies talk about magic and seducing men since vanilla. How about instead of changing one of them, you bring in a dude (or girl) for each of them to show off their efforts after almost 16 years. The guards are easy enough to change, so I don’t mind them being replaced. Just like shift/patrol work. Old guys get promoted or they die and new ones come in.Also can we have more updates to the entourage following the matron around stormwind? Would be cool to see those kids be adults now and working around stormwind.
they need to fix the wizard hats on the kids...terrible clipping lol.also the new character models look REALLY out of place in the vanilla textured buildings...that armor on the walls and the desks look atrocious.

Given races like Night Elves, Worgen, Pandaren, Goblins, and Undead taking permanent residence in SW/Org, it'd be really cool to see more races than Humans and Orcs being Guards in the capitals, and the new Shadowlands customization options being put on other older NPC's, especially those in the BFA zones, given that it's the new player experience for leveling would be neat as well; but I think just having the existing Human NPC's have more than the prior 4 or so customization permutations is a great improvement over what was previously there.
As a happy brown guy, I must say that none of these things ever struck me as being an issue till it became such an issue.
https://wow.zamimg.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/980084.jpgThe kids in this image were already like that, to my knowledge. There were racially diverse human children pretty much from the get-go-- or at the very least, when their models were updated for BFA. I remember conversations about asking why NPC children can be black but player characters cannot be, at the time.Edit: I hopped in game to make sure and was proven false. I was thinking of some of the randomized Stormwind Orphan NPCs who have been using those models.
