Update your addons - Many addons will need updates with the patch.

Clean out your bags and bank

Check your spellbook and add any new spells to your bar that were added from the unpruning.

Optimize your character's gear, talents and enchants for the class and spec changes and the removal of Corruption. Check out our Pre-Patch Class Guides for advice!

Head to the Barber Shop to change your character's gender or look with many new available character customization options.

Druids can also head to the Barber shop to get the option to change each of their Druid forms individually, which includes Artifact Forms and Fire Kitty!

Finish any Island Expedition achievements and collect any rewards as they will likely become much harder to complete in Shadowlands, especially with PvP Islands.

Finish any Warfront goals including transmogs, toys and heirlooms as they will likely be harder to find willing players come Shadowlands.

Level a character of both factions to complete the War Campaign on both sides to earn Jouer sur les deux tableaux and the Griffe-de-givre cuirassé and Destrier robe-sanglante mounts.

Acquire the Vaguerage glaciaire from Mythic Dame Jaina Portvaillant and Omnivoyant de Ny’alotha from Mythic N'Zoth le Corrupteur before they drop to 1% chance when Shadowlands launches.

Acquire the Aile-du-Vide non corrompue from Heroic N'Zoth le Corrupteur before it is removed when Shadowlands launches.

Shadowlands Pre-Patch Event and Scourge Invasion

The Capital Cities of Stormwind and Orgrimmar will have a Scourge Invasion where a Zombie infection will take place, and you can turn into a Zombie to attack other players.

The Death Rising questline (Part 1, Part 2) will unlock over 2 weeks.

Completing the quests and dailies in Icecrown will earn you Récompense d’argent to spend on some rewards.

Many bosses from Northrend will return and will spawn randomly and drop epic items including a 34 Slot Bag, Sac en parfait état de Papa

Nathanos Blightcaller will also return as a World Boss in the Eastern Plaguelands.

Black Market Auction House now requires a max level character to access.

Water now regenerates mana slower in the first seconds you begin drinking, increasing to a rapid return as you drink continuously.

Elixir of Ancient Knowledge, Elixir of the Rapid Mind, and Excess Potion of Accelerated Learning will become Poor quality and no longer usable.

You can no longer champion a Mists of Pandaria faction for bonus reputation.

Travel Form’s ground forms are no longer mountable but the Stag Form ability has been renamed Mount Form which is mountable.

Explosive Orb health has been reduced and no longer scales with keystone level.

New players will automatically go to Exile's Reach and receive tutorials from a dynamic help system, helping teach brand-new players the basics of the game.

Experienced players that are leveling alts will have the option to go to Exile's Reach without the help system or start in the traditional racial starting zone.

Death Knights and Demon Hunters will not be able to go to Exile's Reach and will participate in their own starting zone.

Exile's Reach culminates in a two-boss mini dungeon that scales to your party size!

Chromie can be found near each city's Embassy.

You can choose any expansion from Burning Crusade to Battle for Azeroth and level through the expansion.

The entire world will scale to your current level from level 10 to level 50 including creatures, quests and loot .

Once you reach level 50, you will automatically be pulled from Chromie Time after a minute but you can turn experience off if you want to finish the expansion.

(2) Set: Rested experience consumed is reduced by 30%.

(3) Set: Increases your out-of-combat regeneration in the outdoors, normal dungeons and battlegrounds.

(4) Set: Gaining a level triggers Burst of Knowledge, dealing Holy damage to nearby enemies and granting you 40% primary stat for 2 minutes. Defeating additional enemies extends this effect, up to 2 additional minutes.

(6) Set: Rested experience consumed is reduced by an additional 30%.

Monks' Peak of Serenity daily buff Illumination will grant rested experience.

Insightful Rubellite is being renamed Nascent Rubellite and the 5% experience buff is being changed to a 5% swim speed buff.

Certain spells that were made spec only have been returned to all specs such as Mort et décomposition and Éclair de givre.

Iconic abilities have returned such as Totem de vague de mana, Image miroir, Cyclone and the old Météores.

Popular talents and abilities have been made baseline such as Fureur du wyrm de givre and Toucher des magi.

To see if an ability is target capped, check the tooltip. Generally, if an ability is hard target capped, it will be listed on the tooltip.

If there is no target cap listed on the tooltip, the spell will more than likely be soft capped at 20 targets (for damaging spells) or 6 targets (for healing spells).

Burst cooldowns are defined as spells like Courroux vengeur and Pouvoir des Arcanes which increase your throughput every couple minutes.

However, Blizzard agrees that Incurring a global cooldown to do nothing but enhance further button presses is unsatisfying.

Certain abilities like Métamorphose have a unique animation, visual effect and numerical payoff to warrant them being on the GCD.

Combat Potions are no longer limited to one use per combat.

All combat potions share a 5 minute cooldown that starts immediately.

You won't need to worry about missing your Pre-Pot anymore with the changes.

On long encounters, you might be able to get 3 or 4 potions in!

Health Potions

Health Potions are also no longer limited to one use per combat.

All health potions (except for Healthstones) share a 5 minute cooldown that starts immediately. This cooldown is not shared with the Combat potion cooldown.

This also means that on long encounters, you could use multiple health potions.

Healthstones

Healthstones are unchanged and can still only be used once per combat.

They have a minute cooldown that starts once you drop combat.

Race, class and gender icons are higher quality and have a more modern look.

The class trial option has been moved to a checkbox in the bottom right hand corner.

You can now see if your name has been taken, prior to finalizing your character.

New dropdowns, allowing you to quickly cycle through customization options.

Barber Shop

Night Elves have a "Teldrassil" burn option as well as vine decorations for their hair and marking colors separated out from hair color.

Undead have pink hair options and the ability to hide bones.

Orcs have several layers of scars, tattoos, and war paint.

Draenei have different tail lengths and dozens of new jewelry colors.

Worgen can customize their human form separately from their worgen form.

Void Elves can access blue eyes and all the skin tones of Blood Elves, for a High Elf appearance.

Dwarves have numerous tattoo options, including Wildhammer appearances.

Tauren can wear flowers with their new hairstyles.

Humans have a large variety of facial features to represent the diversity in the real world.

Most races now have a bald option.

Shadowlands Dressing Room

Forms are no longer tied directly to other customization options such as hair color.

Artifact Skins are included, so you can use the Feral Druid Artifact Form as a Restoration Druid in Cat Form as long as you've unlocked the skin.

Old Glyphs are also included such as Cheetah or Dolphin Form.

You can transmog any Artifact appearance from your class, as long as it follows normal weapon transmog rules (i.e. 1-hand to 1-hand, 2-hand to 2-hand, etc).

You can mix and match the appearance of different Artifacts now, having your Main-Hand and Off-hand from different appearances, or from completely different Artifacts.

The Artifact transmog interface is being retained so you can still transmog your own spec Artifact weapons over whatever weapons you are using.

Mages and Warlocks can transmog wands to daggers and swords.

Priests can transmog wands to 1H maces and daggers.

PvP Gladiator mounts are now account-wide.

Battle Pets

Many of the strong Battle Pet strategies had their abilities nerfed, which includes Flock and Hunting Party.

Pets such as Chaton de braise and Cafard mécanique had their stats changed.

Hunter Pet Tames

Hunters will be able to tame Undead and Cloud Serpent Pets!

During the Pre-Patch, only Undead Hunters will be able to tame Undead Pets. Once Shadowlands launches, all Hunters can obtain Tome de lien d’os simplifié in Shadowlands to tame Undead Pets.

Pandaren Hunters can tame Cloud Serpent Pets. All other Hunters must have one character on the account be Exalted with the L’ordre du Serpent-nuage to buy the Bien éduquer son serpent in order to tame Cloud Serpents.

Remember: BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP. Not just the WTF+Interfaces folders, but if you can afford/have an external Disc, make regular backups of the entire WoW folder too, it can save you lots of time if things go wrong (like not having to redownload the whole WoW game files after formatting your PCs).
