The Quest for the Dress

Long, long ago a low-level night elf hunter disembarked from the Darnassus to Auberdine flight and stepped into the foreign warmth of the inn nestled along the wild coast of Darkshore. Hungry and 'gryphlagged, she sought out the nearest source of nourishment, only to be astounded by the prettiest little black dress there ever was, gracing the form of the friendly night elf baker. 'Gryphlagged as she was, she lacked any kind of character restraint and shocked the nice lady with a very loud "Hot damn! Where can I get a dress like that?", which only earned her the stares of everyone in the inn and the stink-eye of the innkeeper. Alas, the baker was unable to remember where she had gotten the dress from and the young hunter was heartbroken, though soon filled up with warm moist cornbread and some strangely flavored melon juice.

Quickly bombarded by requests of aid from beleaguered townsfolk, two of which included finding a mysterious shiny red crystal in the mountains and capturing a rabid thistle bear, her hopes of discovering where such a dress could be bought were quickly dashed and the quest was pushed to the back of her mind. Once her missions required her to travel beyond Darkshore, she rarely visited Auberdine, pausing only rarely on the way to somewhere else. These brief visits reminded her of her old dream, and it was something she related many, many times after consuming far too much alcohol in one sitting, much to the annoyance of drunk dwarves discussing what kind of axe kills better.

Many years later, news reached her ears from a helpful guild mate by the name of Wowhead that the dress she'd been looking for could be found on the auction block at Stormwind, and from there she traced the dress' roots back to tailors. It turned out that it was something any tailor worth his salt could make, had she only the resources to provide him. So, in a world of ugly clothes that never seemed to match no matter what she did, she acquired something she had always wanted, but had never found, even if the sleeve's are a little different from the original.

Side Note: Yes, I first saw this dress on our baker Kyndri many a month ago (like, back at the beginning of the game when I was making my first character…good lord, that was a long time ago!) and had always drooled over it every time I passed her. The first time I actually saw it on a PC was on a lvl 1 gnome in SW about three days ago—I chased her down, found out what the name of it was, and jumped on Wowhead like a starving dog. Now that I know where it comes from, some poor tailor’s about to get badgered for about nine million of them (no, not really…just 2...my banker needs one after all). So it comes down to this: Thank you, Blizzard for giving us some of that awesome looking NPC gear (Next stop, Tyrande’s Mooncloth Robe! Because who wouldn't love to look like one of the most powerful night elves in all of Azeroth?) and thank you Wowhead for making the search sooo easy. I tried Thottbot back in the day and didn’t have any luck—I didn’t even know about Wowhead then, though I don’t think it was at full capacity at that point. OMG, YAY! THE SEARCH IS FINALLY OVER! w00t!

EDIT: Since the Cataclysm (4.0.3) ripped apart Auberdine and killed off most of the vendors and quest givers and other NPCs that everyone loved and came to find so familiar, I was worried about whether or not Kyndri survived. SHE LIVES! She's currently a vendor in the refugee camp just east across the road from the Ruins of Auberdine (it's marked by a little tent/mountain-like symbol). With the death of Auberdine and it's people, it's nice to know that someone made it out alive. =/ The whole thing has made me very sad, so I guess good job, Blizzard.
