Once you locate her and she clenses the orb a 40 elite will spawn and you have to kill it. She says you need to kill it and possibly find a friend to help. I killed him easily at 43 with my Fel hunter and not a lot of damage sustained. seemed too easy.

If you're looking for a quick way to get to, or back to Tabetha, you can turn left out of Theramore Isle and swim across. There are plenty of places to get out of the water and it cuts about 10 mins off the journey :D

There is an entrance at about 49, 44. This is likely the closest one to Tabetha.

This quest can be completed when you get it at lvl 30. We are on a pvp server so the run down to Shimmering Flats can be a pain. I imagine this part would be easy on a pve ^_^. Basically I just got a Guildy to run me to Tabetha, then down to the flats. After that I teleported back to Ironforge. Picked up the gem needed, flew with my Guildy to south shore for a run through Scarlet Monastery.Teleported back to Iron Forge again, was able to solo collecting the totems from the trolls in southeast Arathi. I used my main to clear the Circle of Outerbinding from its roaming lvl 39 air elementals.(tried running them to the guards, they do not assist for some reason).Back to Iron forge for the scary run back to Tabetha.Fun and well worth it.

One thing I'd like to point out is that there is a graveyard right next to her (at least for Horde). I was preparing for a long walk to turn in the level 30 mage quest when I got ganked a bit south down the road from where you enter Dustwallow Marsh from The Barrens. When I released I just let the Spirit Healer resurrect me right next to her. Saved me a lot of time I reckon.

she is at her hause at 46.56. get as many of the quest 2 talk to her so u dont need to keep running. (even though u can fly to mudsprocket (close by) so u dont need to run as much :))

Incase you people are confused, this Tabetha is not the one from Old Hillsbrad but an entire different person. My friend was confused and I felt needed to post that here.

Tabetha does a whole range of mage quests, including this one. If a mage has started that quest (you should see a Felguard outside), you won't be able to turn in any quests with her until it is despawned or killed.

I had three quests to just go talk to this woman before I had even set foot in Dustwallow Marsh. I'm currently questing in Dustwallow and so far I've gotten two more quests in which I'm supposed to go talk to her.

Edit: I'm a mage so some were mage quests.

There is a rumour that she is the mother (Or related) to Jaina Proudmoore, the ruler of Theramore and the most powerful magi!

She does a whole load of quests for mages, and some other quests for none mages, including one for Zul'farrak.

I will say, before Duskwallow was given a revamp, I don't think she had a voice emote. After she got given one, she was given one saying 'kings honor friend', which doesn't seem to suit for a neutral quest giver when talking to horde players.
Still, same can be said for neutral npcs in dalaran saying 'for the alliance'.

I have to disagree on this entirely,since if you read up on Aegwynns' lore it's pretty obvious that her character and Tabetha have little in common.

Lore is pretty much clearly pointing to Pained being Aegwynns alias.In short:

Declared by Theramore's surgeons to "have the constitution of an elf", she now serves as Lady Jaina's chamberlain and adviser, under an assumed name, to avoid any unwanted guests.

Not sure about the WoW lore, but I suspect Blizzard got Tabetha's name from Samantha's daughter in the old TV show Bewitched -- Sam and Tabitha (the spelling from the TV character) were both witches. Friendly ones of course :)

Constitution having nothing to do with appearance of course. lol

Anyway, Tabetha is most likely Aegwynn.

Read the quest text for "Tabetha's farm" given out by Guard Byron.

This description of Tabetha is much more in line with what lore tells us of the older Aegwynn living in Theramore.

I am 75% positive that Tabetha is Aegwynn. She lives her peaceful life as she wanted. Also there is a quest: La tiare des abysses . This is most likely the famous silver tiara of Aegwynn. The only thing that is not matching is the fact that in Cycle of hatred it is said that she became Lady Jaina's chamberlain and adviser. And thats not a post that allows her a peaceful life with 2 apprentices in a farm far away from Theramore. Except, of course, if Jaina has a very fast scout to make the communications and/or Tabetha just teleports directly in the tower. But that kind of teleporting will attract pretty much attention in the nearby mages. Tabetha can make a shield, of course, but who knows. Also, all of this is just a speculation. Thats why i am 75% positive and not 100%.

EDIT: I checked in wowwiki and now i am 100% sure she is dead. She sacrificed herself to help her grandson kill Cho'gal.

There are player-created rumors that Tabetha is Aegwynn, mother of Medivh, living under an alias due to her renown as a mystic of some great accomplishment, and aided by her being a level 62 NPC in a time when the level cap was 60. (Anything above 60 was reserved for end-game content and important characters.) It didn't hurt these rumors that Aegwynn herself was known to reside in Dustwallow Marsh, but was absent from the game.

But to call her Aegwynn overlooks one important detail. In the quest, Direhorn Raiders, Les pilleurs navrecorne Apprentice Morlann states that Tabetha has trained generations of apprentices in Dustwallow Marsh. Either he is vastly overstating her tenure there, or perhaps he meant apprentices of various ages within a span of a few years (which is still an awkward phrasing...) or.....

Tabetha is not a human. The humans arrived in Kalimdor four, maybe five or six years before Vanilla WoW, depending on how much time spanned between the Culling of Stratholme and the Battle of Mount Hyjal. That is hardly time for a human to leave Jaina's expedition in the middle of a war with the Burning Legion and Undead Scourge (and the Orcs and Night Elves for a while) to set up a shack and start training other magic-users. Who would even train under her with all the chaos going on around?

Her not being human would also explain why she is friendly to both Alliance and Horde, and why Horde players originally were sent to her to learn new spells (before later changes simply moved those spells to the class trainers and just awarded them upon leveling up.) If she had come across the Great Sea with Jaina, wouldn't she be treated as hostile with the rest of the Theramore Deserters?

If she's not human, then she must belong to another race capable of taking human shape. The most obvious of these is a dragon. Dragons are known to have an affinity for magic and take humanoid form. There's no evidence that she is a dragon necessarily, but there are too many conflicting issues with Tabetha truly being human.
