Blazerunner is the final mob you have to kill in the linken questline. After you kill him he drops the golden flame which looks just like a piece of the triforce.

took this guy down before I got the quest to kill him with a 54 and 56 shaman. One tanked/DPSed while the other healed, and he went down within a minute.

Later, we came back and trashed him with the shield-killer item you get from the quest to kill him. He went down FAST.

Keep your back to the inside of the cave, or if you can't get past him, pick the mountain wall next to his cave on the left if you're looking towards the inside. He'll bounce you up a bit, but if you're relatively quick to react, you should have no trouble.

I had a problem with this guy knocking us back up on to the cave walls and evading, so make sure your party members move fast and remove his aura everytime it's back up immediately.

Also, if you are going to wipe, die in the back of the cave because you can ressurect there easily without aggroing and engaging him is much easier.

took him out solo @ 55 feral druid, all i can say is nuke, and pray bash doesnt get parried/dodge etc, and feral charge IS your BEST friend.

Had some problems with him 59hunter with 56 pet no fire res.
A healer would help with this. Almost had him till he knocked me into lava. Also be careful of other factions who farm area.

Killed solo with 59 frost mage. First cleared the immediate area to avoid adds. Then pull with frostbolt, and immediately use the totem. Summon water elemental if you have it, and kite him like any other elite. He is snareable/rootable. If your spells start hitting for like 50 damage, use the totem again. Around 8k hp, so he'll drop before too long.

Druids, you don't even have to fight him in the cave. Clear the area outside, and root him. Then blast away, repeat roots the second they break. Don't forget to innervate at some point!

i really hate this guy... i've faced dungeon bosses and outside elites... but i've never faced anyone this hard before... it's really annoying the hell out of me... i used the totem on him and blast away, after my mana is down, i got him to about 70% hp only (i have low mana)... then i shift to bear form and go inside the cave and engage him, after hitting him a few times, he instantly regenerates his health... WTF!

what is a solo druid to do? aside from bringing friends..?

solo'd as a 57 lock. remove aura, send in vw, fear, dot, rinse and repeat.
just make sure you clear the mountain, because you dont want adds.

If you don't want to, or can't, kill him, just die by the entrance and res on the chest

Unless you hearth or are a rogue, you're probably facing another death, but probably no more than you would have you had tried to kill him.

Edit: whoops, didn't look at the quest details well enough. That's one way of getting the chest, I suppose, but you still have to kill blazey

Solo'd as a 57 BM hunter. Just wanted to see if I could kill him with my pet and it pretty easy death for him lol.

Sent in pet, enraged, and fired Arcane Shot over and over again and kept pet healed. Went down in about 40 secs.

He currently seems to be bugged as of 2.3.0 and does not have an aura, meaning most classes that can fear, banish, stun, root, etc can solo him. Chances are this has or will be fixed in 2.3.0

Using the totem does not have any effect on him.

Soloed as a lvl 56 BM hunter. Ran in, cleared his aura, used Intimidation to get pet to take aggro, and then stepped back and Arcane Shot over and over. Used Hunter's Mark and Rapid Shots as well, and had Aspect of the Hawk active. He took health off my pet VERY fast, and when he was on about 1% health, my pet died. He managed to knock me right into the lava pit behind, but I was able to finish him with one more Arcane Shot and get out to recover the Golden Flame.

All in all, not too difficult.

As of the new patch, this mob is still an elite. I know that a lot of elite mobs got nerfed, but not this one.

I didn't have the quest to kill Blazerunner, so I didn't have the rod to remove his aura (that knocks you back off high cliffs). Instead I put my back to the cave wall and attacked then.

He did spawn again after about 5 minutes, and he didn't have the aura on him. Then again, he didn't drop anything that time either. I got coal the first time.

All in all pretty hard for a caster to take this one down without the quest. As a 70 firemage on kara gear I tried to kite-dps him for fun, and died in Marshal's Refuge after 5-6 minutes of ice-lancing, novas, frostbolts, cocs, and couple pots. Not easy.

I am a 56 Prot Pally and this Elite is a bastard. I've died three times trying to kill him. I've tried several combinations of gear including boosting my fire resistance over 100 and I still have no luck with this SOB.

Main problem is, you have to keep the totem in your off hand which sucks because I don't get to hold my Wall of the Dead Shield. He tries to knock you over the side of the cliff by pushing you every time he attacks. Simple solution go in his cave.

Don't try to solo, unless you're a warlock.

Just solo'd as a 56 BM hunter.
Keep mend pet on at all times, Intimidation, and use BW when pet is 50-60% health.
My pet died with Blaze at 800hp, I ran out of mana, just wing clip, turn away from the cliff so he throws you back near his cave and keep shooting, no pots needed.
I didn't know there was a quest related to him, not cool. :(

Locks arent the only ones that can solo this soloed as a 54 frost mage...
step 1 Summon elemental put on fire ward
step 2 use totem to aggro blaze
step 3 use elemental freeze on blaze, use icy veins
step 4 pound away on mage with elemental + frost bolts until freeze/nova is done
step 5 nova, repeat step 4, if nessecary use the totem again, this guys shield i think does come up again after you've deactivated it once.
step 6 if nessecary use cold snap repeat steps 1-5 skipping step 2 if un-needed.
step 7 loot chest in the back

turn in quest and enjoy the references to legend of zelda :D

for hunters and locks just sed your pet or voidwalker in tank it then you just stand and shoot or cast spells so you dont have to worry abouy only being able to use a 1 hand weapon

Easily solod just for fun as a level 56 fury warrior. Had to pop fear and bandage, then pop a health pot, but nothing terribly hard about it.

Note to all classes having problems with this guy:

When you use the totem on him, it counts as an aggressive spell, and thus produces a minimal amount of threat. This means that he's infinitely kiteable - The totem uses no mana and has no cooldown. He runs a little faster than Movement Speed, but I think that Aspect of the Cheetah, a runspeed enchant or the AB Boots will clear this up easily.

1] Kite him down the volcano, then around the base.
2] Keep a DoT - ANY DoT - up at him on all times to cause the necessary damage to kill him. Even if it is worse-than-nothing Rend, it'll do damage, and get him down in the long run.
3] If you run into an add by mistake, simply CC it in some way and run on. You'll be long past it by the time it pulls adds/gets to you.
4] As stated above, kite him around the volcano - Don't run a marathon with him on your tail. You have to get back to the cave and get the Flame before he respawns, and if you run too far this could be a problem even with a (60%) mount.
5] As a last note, -don't- let him hit you. He hit me for ~400 and upwards, blast wave for ~200, and I got dazed enough times to be at 20% HP when he died. Just try to keep at least ~12 yrd distance and you'll be fine.

...In case anyone doubts this - Solo'd today, 53 Balance Druid :]

I'm NOT soloing this guy as lvl 54 demo warlock.
Fearing/dotting only helps so much, and in the end my mana runs out. Normally I would Life tap -> Drain life, but for some reason I'm only getting about 3% as much life per tick as I usually do, which results in my HP steadily going down, and then I stand there, no mana, 15% hp, and die from one hit.

Don't know if I'm missing something...

(Maybe it's related to the totem that's been mentioned, which I don't have...)

I tried him with a 70 affliction lock and he threw me into the lava and got me to 50% and then kept pushing me and pushing me and pushing me and then eventually he threw me off the side of the mountain and I died so yeah this guy is ridiculous

Finally slayed this fellow with two lvl 53 demo locks. Initially we went with felhounds for the fire resist, which didn't do too well as they died far too quickly. Eventually we got him by using voidwalkers, and frequently using the totem and fear.

I'd like to reccomend to everyone that you use the totem BEFORE he regains his aura! If you use it reactively you'll get blasted back once or twice before you can use the totem and by then you're already swimming in lava or falling down the mountain.

Best of luck with this rather challenging mob.

Soloed as 57 prot pally. The difficulty of course is that I had no shield during the entire fight because the totem has a 30 second CD after equipping and I had to debuff him multiple times. So I just focused on spell damage and 1h melee. I had to use 1 major health potion. I also had a decent amount of fire resist gear on... FR was 89.

Make sure you stand inside the cave with your back to the back of it.

Hardest Boss ever. I saw this guy on the way up the ridge to forge the Scholomance Key, had no Idea about the quest, no idea about this guys constant knockback nor the totem. Level 66 Tankadin I decide to kill the elite for fun. I tried to stay in the alcove when I realised about the knock back but he beat me out some how even when I was against a wall. The fight went all the way down the ridge but I eventually downed him with 1-2% health left. If you ask me I was ridiculously lucky. I spent half the time hoping against hope that he wouldn't knock me of a high ledge. Like I said be prepared if you don't have the totem, he has the potential to own a 70.

Just killed it as a 57 warrior with sword and shield. Popped Shield Block to start, revenged and shield slammed as much as I could before it ran out then popped Shield wall. Didnt need the trinket, had to fear and use a heavy mageweave bandage near the end. Not too hard at all so maybe he has been nerfed in 3.0.2.

Nerfed or not..this guy is hard....
I met him not knowing about the quest or totem, being an elite killer I fancied my chances. He killed me 4 times. My corpse was in the back of the cave so decided since I had to get passed him anyway I'd give it another shot.

Cast Regrowth before hitting kitty form and Nature's Grasp right after. Opened with a stun and got knocked back missing one 'free' shot. Ran back in for the 'free' shot I could still get and mangled him, the root got him so I decided to heal up while I could. The fight was going badly for me and him so I hit Nature's Grasp again and rooted him - things were looking bad! Healed up again hit kitty and ran back in. Still he kept knocking me about and I could barely touch him. Had to hit Lifeblood quick and hope for the best.

He's dead now and wishing he'd never messed with me.....:)

No need for Direbear form - Lifeblood,Nature's Grasp,Master of Anatomy and Infected wounds and kiting FTW!

Yeah...he's soloable at lvl54 by a feral druid! Have fun....:)

Soloed at 59 with a feral druid in auction house BC greens... quite easy, with that. Started cat, worked up 5 combo points for a Rip, shifted out to heal, then finished him off in bear form.

Just keep his aura down, or he'll knock you back repeatedly.

Took him with my lvl 55 feral druid. Same way I kill everything, pounce, rake, mangle w/ a little faerie fire sprinkled on top. And having Blazing Emblem equipped saved me from having to heal. Didn't even experience his knockback. And I totally forgot about the totem.

Just got him as a 54 combat rogue. Cheap shot, get knocked back once from his aura, use the totem, then put your regular offhand back on. The rest is straightforward, Adrenaline Rush, Blade Flurry, Evasion, and do your regular thing, I only needed one pot, but didn't use it, (46 health left when he died) and pulled through right as his shield went back up, I got knocked back, and Rupture finished him off. My gear isn't that great either, over half of it is in the 30s.

i prot pallied him at level 56. No resistance gear, no shield switching. Keep the off hand totem geared as his knock back aura reapplies once you switch it (at least that's what I noticed). I'd also risk saying he heals himself while the aura is on.

So first time he stomped me into the ground like a rat. Second time roles reversed and all I needed was bubble + bandage. Wouldn't have to use it either if I had mana to consecrate.

So for the prot pallies - Fire res aura, forget about the shield, Consecrate spam with BoS, JoW and SoW worked for me.

Soloed as a level 58 Prot Warrior, but it's very doable earlier on as well. Prot Warriors in Defensive Stance have a significant DPS disadvantage because if you use the totem, which I'll go ahead and say you should, you lose out on your shield skills. This also means that the one damage-reduction skill you DO have (Shield Wall) will be inaccessible. Rage isn't an issue here because of how much this thing hurts, so don't use Bloodrage. Charge as a lead-in if you must. Use that Rage to cast Battle Shout, Rend, and Demoralizing Shout before switching to Defensive Stance, but don't forget to turn on Retaliation as well. Once Retaliation wears off, if you really feel you're trailing behind or if you're a lot better off than planned, switch to Berserker for Recklessness then back to Defensive. Sunders should be up from the getgo. Aside from that, this is one stunnable S.O.B. Improved Revenge, Concussion Blow, and War Stomp (for you Taurens out there) will really halt his overwhelming presence. Keep Rend up, use Last Stand if necessary, spam Heroic because you'll have tons of excess Rage. He'll fall eventually. Chances are, you'll have more health than I did when you're done, since I was so caught off guard I didn't cast Recklessness or Retaliation; you probably won't even need Last Stand either. You will, however, kiss your shield tenderly when this is done and swear never to part from it ever again.

Soloed as a 56 Fury warrior, but no guarantees - I had to use a Major Healing Potion and rank 4 Lifeblood to stay up. Long and short, make sure you have Battle Shout on, open with Interrupt if possible, use Demoralizing Shout while he's still stunned and make sure he has 5 sunder armors on him ASAP. Just lay into him with the strongest stuff you have - I used Death Wish -> Recklessness -> Bloodthirst, Heroic Strike, and Whirlwind to take off a chunk about halfway through the fight and Executed him after that.

E: Also, I didn't bother with the totem - it seems like he's had his aura removed, making a chunk of the quest chain kind of stupid, but oh well.

Possibly referencing Ganon/Ganondorf from the Legend of Zelda games. (Edit: It might also be a reference to Vaati or Agahnim (the other recurring final bosses in the series), but Ganon is the most likely. It may even be a reference to Barinade, the third boss in Ocarina of Time (vaguely similar body shapes, both must be defeated in order to gain access to the "golden power" (Barinade needs to be killed in order to gain the last jewel required to access the Sacred Realm, where the Triforce is contained)), but this one's kind of pushing it)

Kinda weird though... Blazerunner and Aquementas are supposed to represent Ganon and Aquamentus (a 3-headed Dragon), but they look more like Frypolar (http://zelda.wikia.com/wiki/Frypolar) in his 2 forms (Fire=Blazerunner/Ice=Aquementas).

Just did it as a level 56 Prot Warrior with a mix of greens and blues. Defensive stance obviously with Battle Shout up prior and Death Mountain track on from Zelda for good measures. ;)

Charge > Demo Shout > Shield Block > (Revenge priority when off CD > SSlam > Glyphed HStrike) > Concus blow as soon as SBlock ran out > TClap when ConcusBlow ran out > Finished with SSlams

He hits pretty hard. Was about 250 on me with an added 50 fire damage.

Solo'd again as a level 56 Troll Holy Priestess. I have to say it was quite interesting from that perspective, but the key to this fight was, of course, insta-cast spells. Threw on PW:S before engaging, pulled him with the staff which deactivated his barrier. There IS some aspect of physical damage to his attacks, because where my Warrior once took 250-300 damage, my Priestess was getting hit far harder for 350-500 damage. I was actually overwhelmed at first, because I didn't see his damage until he broke through my shield. Started off with Holy Fire and Mind Blast. Tacked on SW:P and Devouring, then Psychic Scream'd him. Put back on PW:S and renewed. He came BACK with his barrier up again. Tacked on my Berserking+Inner Focus+Blessed Prayer Beads in one go with my handy dandy macro, then hit him once more with HF and MB before he made it back. Was working on Smite when his barrier rocked me, so, I deactivated again, cast Renew (he'd already broken my shield once more), and Smite'd until I could recast shield. Ran out of Mana at this point, popped up a mana potion, and Psychic Screamed him again. He had about 20% health left at this point. I bandaged myself to conserve mana. When he returned, he was met with the full unbridled force of HF/MB/Smite/Smite/Smite before he fell.

Ironically, I forgot to buff myself and did not do so during the entire fight. So, I was missing my PW:F the entire time and went up against him with roughly 2.2k health and 4.4k mana.

I then proceeded to loot his corpse and retrieve the flame before leaving, no regrets in my mind. It could have gone more smoothly if he hadn't caught me off-guard at first.

It was a lot more engaging of a fight as my priestess, but I'd actually have to say I had an easier time (probably because I knew what to expect this time). Didn't even have to throw out a Desperate Prayer. :D

I came by Un'Goro to finish off my Scholomance key and looked in his general direction. He was surrounded by a blue vortex type effect, like he was Evocating. So I went to hit him, and my spells and abilities (at 80) were only doing about 50-100 damge, and he was throwing me around like a toy when I got close to him. I never did the Linken quests, so I dunno much about this guy. Nothing on his buff bars, so I dunno.

What was the deal?

Oh yeah, it's worth noting that every other time I've seen this guy and attacked him, he didn't have this shield or whatever on him. My hunter and mage had no problems killing this guy in like 5 seconds and he wasn't throwing me around either.

Right...... the damn totem wont work for me at all and I'm really P to the O. 6 deaths and it keeps saying EVADE when i try to use the totem. Just posting cuz maybe this will deter others from wasting time running all over 2 continents to not be able to complete due to a glitch.

This quest/NPC is currently badly bugged, the Totem of Aquementos does not dispel his aura, so he constantly knocks you back into other mobs, lava, and whatever else until he finally goes into Evade mode. He also seems to take about 2% of normal damage directed at him, so he's pretty much impossible to kill.

The quest is bugged, but doable. The Totem is currently best used by spamming it constantly (it has no use CD). This will both make Blazerunner unable to punt you, plus gives you around 88-90 or so health per use.

Hope this helps anyone else who has been fretting on the currently bugged nature of the quest. :)

A little update. Spamming the totem doesn't really work in the latest patch at least, I still got pummeled by him a lot and I didn't get any health from it. As it still does nothing to remove the aura either, the totem is completely useless. Managed to kite him to death after ~1hour of trying with a lvl 59 enhancement shaman, but really, at the moment the quest is not worth the effort unless you like a bit of a challenge.

I'm having exactly the same problem but the GMs simply send a canned reply saying "this is working as intended". Which I guess is Blizzard-speak for "CBA to go check".

Took me 5 minutes of kiting to take him down with a level 70 frost mage (average damage from frostbolts was under 200 hp due to the bugged aura).

Currently the aura cannot be removed (bugged). Took me 7 minutes to kill him with a level 70 frost mage (twice got punted all the way down from the mountain - had to kite him outside to have any chance).

GM says they are aware of the problem, but apparently the fix didn't make it into the last patch (3.1.2)...

Lvl 59 Balance Druid -- I went up there pretty confident I could handle this guy, even though I knew it would not be a trivial fight. I had read many of the earlier comments from people who had soloed him, so I was very dismayed when after rooting him I spammed him with Starfall and it had next to no effect. My Starfall usually deals around 1400 damage, but nothing I did had much effect on him, including the totem. After he destroyed me, I felt very discouraged and came back to this site to re-read the comments. I am glad I kept reading to the end to discover the fact that this part of the quest is bugged. I guess I'll bring a couple of Lvl 80 pals with me to finish him so I can get the quest off my log.

2/12/2010 -- I had this quest chain on my disc priest, and at level 60 I decided to see if I had any better luck than I had had with my druid. I certainly had learned a lot since that first attempt. I was able to kill this mob, and the keys were 1) instant-cast DoT and HoT spells and 2) Psychic Scream, as well as PW-Shield. Because of the knockbacks this mob hits you with, you rarely have any time to cast a spell, so I relied mostly on instant-cast spells for both damage and healing. It was necessary to equip the rod and use it several times during the fight, as the aura re-appeared after a short time. My shield failed before its cooldown was up, because of the amount of damage it was absorbing, at which point I would fear him and heal myself, and cast a Holy Fire on him before he came back at me. By that time I usually had my shield back up.

Man, I spent a whole bunch of time going through this quest chain only to get to the end and find that the boss is bugged. >_< Frostbolt for 24 damage, ftl. He punted me waaay down the mountain and I eventually ran OOM so I had to run. He was easy to kite, though, so if I could do more than 2 percent damage he would have died easy. As it was I managed to get him to like half.

Just a note, this guy has a shield that reduces damage by a huge %, not a set number. I.E. I came around this area on my 68 warlock, and I had to seriously run because I was critting on this dude for like a only a few hundred damage, with blues on my char. So whoever said they solo'ed him without using the quest totem to take off his shield are just full of ^&*! LOL

Also, he will knock you off the mountain, so face towards the peak even if you are a level 80, or you're going to be in for one wild night :D

Also Arassar learn to read the quest log...use your totem to take off that shield, otherwise you might as well be trying to solo Nefarion.

Okay, as a 57 retri paladin(boa shoulders and axe, rest quest blue/greens), ive found a way to solo this guy...
First of all, dont use the totem, just try to find a way to get inside the cave(maybe die) without getting knocked outwards, after that, keep drawing circles inside(try, at least) not to evade him, and try to stay away from the entrance not to get knocked outside, and keep kiting him inside(i know, ull take all the dmg), always use up ur Art of War whenever its up, and ur JoL will help with it, if u have difficulty with ur hp getting low, Hammer him, pop a holy light, and keep attacking(u cant cast while getting attacked), lay on hands, or bubble(u dont get knocked while bubbled), i didnt use any of those 3, so ull be ok i guess.

By the way, cornbreader, learn to read comments, totem doesn't work atm, bugged.

I soloed this mob a couple weeks ago with my (55-57, I forget) BM hunter while I was there for another quest. I mistakenly thought the quest giver for the nearby escort quest was inside the cave he was guarding. I knew nothing of the quest line leading up to this guy nor of the totem. He took a good bit more to take down than your average elite, but I didn't think much of it at the time. But in retrospect I can see now why he was so difficult. The elite Devilsaurs that roam around Un'Goro were quite a bit easier to take down than this guy. I would never attempt it with a different class after reading everyone's comments.

Foolishly tried to beat him with my 53lv rare-geared Enha Shamy. Although I tried all my PVP tricks to survive and was well buffed with around 4500HP (Fire festival buff, fortitude, pots), he gave me no chance. Finally, he kicked me out to a lava pool, so the dead was even more obscur. He resisted/immuned most of my spells and his crushings for 500, criticals for 750 and interrupting kicks were hilarious!

Anyway, definitelly worth of trying at higher levels (55+) because this guy is a real challenge and fun fight!

Just solo'd him as a 54 feral druid. I started by putting regrowth and stealthing. I pounced him and repeatedly hit the quest item to keep his aura down. Once I had 5 combo points, I put rip up (and I of course had mangle up) then ran outside (make sure its clear). When I was outside, I popped natures grasp and healed up to full and put rejuv on myself then went bear form and finished him off. Careful not to get knocked off though!

As of 3.1.2, the quest item still doesn't work. It doesn't not remove Blazerunner's shield. However, if you have a snare/root (Frost Nova, Concussive Shot, Frost Shock, etc.) you can pretty much kite Blazerunner forever.

As a frost mage (56), I wasn't able to nuke him down. I would either die or be oom. I decided I would kite him to Marshal's Refuge and let the guards finish him. However, you have to know...

The quest item is not useless, even if it doesn't work. It will be the key to make this easy : Spamming the item will keep you in combat with Blazerunner ! Use it every time you're not casting or attacking, as it doesn't trigger the global cooldown !

It will be a very long ride, I've done it both for xp and for a challenge. Actually, I managed to kill Blazerunner at Marshal's Refuge, without the guards' help.

Re the comments about spamming the totem to get health - this did work just now for my 59 retadin. (I had a one-hander I'd trained for my tank dualspec.) Seems to me to be a heal proc from Seal/Judgement of Light. I used those two, fire aura, and blessing of wisdom, and the only hard part was staying on him with all the bouncing he was doing. Definitely stay inside the cave and make sure you stay off the back walls, since if you're up where he can't get, he'll start evading. If you spam the totem constantly he cannot kill you.

As for other non-kiting classes, my heart goes out to you. No idea how I'd manage this guy as a warrior...

REALLY annoying 4 a hunter, he kept knocking my pet back and then he ran 2 my pet and kept doin knock backs, i got 1/2 way down the mountainside b4 i managed 2 kill him

Just killed this sucker as a lvl 57 combat rogue. I didn't use the totem at all, I stealthed in, cheap shot -> SS + adren rush, evasion, blade flurry, SS x4, evis, 5x SS, evis etcetera.

I died once, because I tried to blind him but he somehow evaded it and got back to full health, so I'd say it's better to just keep bashing him.
I had my back to the wall, so everytime I flew up I only had to walk a couple steps back to where blazerunner was.

He didn't seem to reduce my damage at all with his aura, so I really don't know what the hell Blizzard did with this guy, but he still is one hell of a pain to kill.

Killed Blazerunner as two 49 characters. I was Prot Pally grouped w/ Arms Warrior. I used the totem about 3-4 times during the encounter, and my warrior partner used a shield/1h sword.

I kept the warrior up with small Flash Heals, and we didn't even have to have to use any potions or CDs, (except LoH to save mana). I was sure to keep that aura off full time, and contribute judgements, but I'm sure the warriors bleeds/overpower/revenge spam was enough to take down Blazerunner.

Easier then we thought. We orignally thought we were going to bomb. It's Dangerous to Go Alone, I guess they really mean it. Find a group or friend, really.

I have went to do this quest three times now, and waited for up to 2 hours for him to spawn, and he has not spawned. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I thought I would post about it.

Totem is working at the moment (patch 3.2.2) as I have just killed him removing the aura. He spawns with no aura but will put it up once you engage (or after a short time anyway) - the aura is clear as it makes him look different to the nearby fire elementals, it's a sort of blue haze.

For reference, he was grey for some reason when I got there but on full hp and no person around so I killed and looted the chest and he repopped after 5 minutes.

One of the posts above mentioned "didn't need to use the trinket". Just for reference the Silver Totem of Aquementas is an OFFHAND item so you will need a 1h weapon if you want a weapon slot used else you fight unarmed.

Yep, he died. I burnt all my cooldowns but the above strategy works for pallies around my level.

Died twice doing this quest as i had to remove my shield making my HP from 4159 to 3891. Called in a buddy and after i zapped him with the totem equipped my shield back and devastated him to hell.

Very nice XP doing this quest chain.

Not sure how you are supposed to do this quest now since every time you touch the ground you get knocked back again, pretty much impossible to solo as a caster since you can't cast anything besides instants.

Toss in a reply here. As of 3.3 at least on Mal'Ganis he's not bugged anymore, however he does like to spam his aura a bit more often then in previous patches.

Really hard mob to solo as lvl 80 mage. He keeps knocking back and you just can't cast any spells. Besides, he doesn't take almost any damage from them.

I'm a level 63 fire mage and I still can't solo this guy. He's immune to my main damage spells and my frost & arcane are too weak to kill him, even with Fire Ward and Ice Armor up. The totem seems to dispel his aura for just a few seconds so you need to pay attention to when it cools down & keep recasting.

Seems to be taking full damage from pet attacks. Level 80 Demo Warlock 3862 spellpower, shadow bolt did around 500 damage whereas felguard melee and cleave hitting for 1k+.

I saw him and decided I would try to kill him on a 57 hunter, was going pretty well right up until a 2nd blazerunner spawned and attacked me and start punting me back while my pet was busy with another one. Careful because somehow he can spawn twice and then your really screwed.

Holy... I just got two Blazerunners stacked on top of each other. Lemme tell you, that ain't a fun time. Luckily I was level 80 and just tossed some DoTs on him.

Believe it or not, I solo'd him as a level 55 Fire Mage in decent (50% blue 50% green) items. Since I couldn't use my primary spells at all (Blazerunner being a Fire Elemental) I popped a fire ward and a mana shield and used Frostbolt, Cone of Cold and Frost Nova spells to kite him down and around the volcano. It was quite tricky, since I pulled many other fire elementals, but my fire and mana shields took care of that. He hit me about 5 times all in all (he hit for about 450, I had 2100 hp). I had to Frost-Nova-And-Glyphed-Evocate once (+60% mana/hp over 8 seconds).

I assume it is much easier for non-fire mages.

Relaying my experience as a subtlety rogue.
Was forced to keep the totem in my offhand for almost the full duration of the fight, it went something like this:
Shadowstep -> Garrote -> bounced back -> Totem -> 5pt Rupture -> Evasion -> CP to 5 (ghostly strike included)-> Kidney Shot -> totem again sometime around here -> preparation Evasion -> building CP -> so on.

He got some good hits in with evasion on anyways so I was within an inch of my life by now, had to switch in my offhand after the final shield dispel while he was kidney shot and pray, ending with about 30ish hp. Overall a hard buggy ass fight.. But the boomerang is worth it! Good luck.

I'm quite surprised that it hasn't been mentioned yet but the totem must be used multiple times in the fight. This is critical.

As a 63 frost mage I expected to be hitting him for at least 800 per frostbolt and double that on crits but when his aura popped back up, suddenly I was only hitting him for 80. That's going to be a looooooooong fight.

Also, his aura may not be up when you first see him. Feel free to open with a frostbolt (or whatever you happen to use) and only use the totem once he raises his aura and turns blue. (I don't remember all that well but he may not always turn blue when the aura goes up. If your attacks are doing 10% of what you would expect, use the totem.)

The other thing to watch out for if you have a pet (my water elemental, for instance) is that the two of them kept overshooting each other and leapfrogged their way off the mountain, leaving me standing in the cave on my own with the totem. Blazerunner came back to me with about 75% health after having evidently killed my water elemental.

Soloed as lvl 56 shadow priest :) dispelled aura 1st then used Psychic Scream, when he was running away putted DoTs on him, when he started to come back, just spammed Mind Flay and Mind Blast :D it was really easy.

All of the totem and shield-dispelling and Linken comments are long out of date. Since the Cataclysm revamp three and a half years ago, he's a simple non-elite mob with no special tactics required and basically anyone can solo him at appropriate level.

Cave is at 49.4, 48.7 - the top of the mountain, on the northwest-ish side. The path up (from the south side of) the mountain starts at 54, 57.1. There's a small cave at 52.5, 51.1. Do not go in there looking for Blazerunner - he's not there. (Obligatory "the cave is a lie joke" here.)
