The new tier 8 makes me sad, especially the helm. They are changing the mp5 on the helm to haste. I know that they are looking to make content harder by cutting down on how much mana regen the casters have but changing the helm from 16 mp5+ 2mp5 from the socket bonus to 8 spirit + 59 haste makes me a sad tree. With the patch i'm going to have to take a hard look to see if I want to gem for spirit or straight mp5.

The thing that boggles my mind about this helm, is that the stats are absolutely identical to that of the Headpiece of Reconciliation, with the only exception being the socket color and the bonus gained from it (and, for whatever reason, this helm also has 1 less Haste). While I'm aware that they're both ilvl226 items, wasn't Blizz's whole reasoning behind this being that the items in Ulduar would better itemized than those previously available from Wrath's initial release, thus giving us an incentive to upgrade? So I'm left with a strange look on my face as to why the only difference between the new T8 helm and the helm that I've been wearing since the 3rd week of Wrath's launch is being whether I want 9 extra haste, or 8 extra spirit. I s'pose this'll be rated down due to a lack of constructive feedback and more of a personal rant, but my mind is too perplexed for me not to state my opinion.

It's downrated because while he looked at that blog, he clearly didn't actually use the applet. With wrath of air totem and either a moonkin or a ret paladin in your raid (which most raids should have, 5% spell crit or 3% all dmg done are pretty hot) it only takes 359 haste rating to reach the GCD soft cap with 5/5 gift of the earthmother. 655 haste rating is a waste if you run with a ret pally or a moonkin.

Of course I used the applet. You are correct; with all the buffs to spell haste available to druids in a raid setting (Wrath of Air Totem, Swift Retribution Aura or Improved Moonkin Aura, 5/5 GotEM) except for Celestial Focus (too deep in the balance tree for a respectable HOT druid to obtain), a restore druid "only" needs 359 haste unbuffed to reach the 1 sec GCD on HOTs.

But you clearly didn't read the rest of my post or you would have noticed the explanation of why haste above and beyond 359 (or 655) is still preferable to crit. I'll recap here for further clarification:

Restore druid main heals are HOTs. HOTs aren't effected by crit. Restore druid secondary heals are regrowth and nourish. Regrowth and nourish receive 25% crit from 5/5 Nature's Bounty; plenty of crit to proc Nature's Grace and Living Seed (and don't forget the raid buffs that increase spell crit chance). Nature's Grace increases cast speed by 20%, not enough on its own to get either Regrowth or Nourish to a 1 sec cast time without considerably more haste than 359 (or 655). It follows thus that haste > crit.

Restore druid main heals are HOTs. HOTs aren't effected by crit. Restore druid secondary heals are regrowth and nourish. Regrowth and nourish receive 25% crit from 5/5 Nature's Bounty; plenty of crit to proc Nature's Grace and Living Seed (and don't forget the raid buffs that increase spell crit chance). I find it interesting that you contradict yourself. How can HoTs be our primary heals, yet you find it helpful for someone to get extra haste past the GCD soft cap (359) for 2 secondary spells, one of which is a heal with a weak hot and the other is a straight up heal?

I would say it is completely reasonable to start stacking crit once you are GCD soft capped to help with the lifebloom ticks, living seed procs and NG procs as well as a nice boost to Regrowth and Nourish. Once GCD capped you get more benefit from crit over haste. I find myself throwing out Regrowths all the time and that extra crit helps me MUCH more than any haste would. Not only am I placing a living seed, but I'm also getting 20% speed boost to cast more regrowths, it would take an insane amount of haste to make up for that 20% speed boost.

So in short:

If your haste is >359 then haste > crit
If your haste is <359 then haste < crit

First, I believe many would disagree with you on the use of "weak" to describe the regrowth HOT and I can only assume you meant to modify your statement about nourish with an adjective like "weak," which again would be a poor way to describe one of the best direct heals in the game.

Second, let's look at the conditions I proposed above:

HOTs are a restore druid's primary heals
Direct heals are a restore druid's secondary heals
HOTs benefit from haste
HOTs do NOT benefit from crit
Direct heals benefit from haste
Direct heals benefit from crit
Direct heals receive 25% extra crit from talents
25% extra crit is sufficient to proc Nature's Grace and Living Seed
Nature's Grace cannot lower the cast time on Nourish or Regrowth to 1 sec without haste.

Explain to me exactly how I am contradicting myself.
