As of Feb 25, current PTR 3.1 build.

the new item : Prismatic Black Diamond, is a trainable skill from JC trainer, NOT from Alliance/Horde cities trainers, NOT from Dalaran trainers,

but from TBC JC trainers.

I got mine trained from Aldor JC trainer.

And the most important point is : you need 300 skills to train this.

I got a +6 spirit green (quality) gem today by making this.

Conclusion, under the current 3.1 PTR build,

Prismatic Black Diamond will be cut into one of the +6 red/blue/yellow non-coomon (green quality) gem (TBC version).

I can not prove if this skill can level up your JC skill or not from 300 onward, but since the average cost from 300-330 basically could be the lowest in any range from 1-450, hence, the value ot adding this skill to JC is close to meaningless.

The black diamonds you get from BRD used to be part of some quest or an obscure crafting recipe... I forget, but they are currently worthless. With 3.1 they will once again have a non-zero value.

They have by no means a non-zero value. You need them for shendralar reputation turn-ins.

Also, many enchants, including the librams, now need a certain level to be in use. I believe its level 50 for the librams, making them, as of 3.1, useless to twinks.

I've tried this out today in patch 3.1 live on EU servers and got green TBC gems, seems to be worthless. Wonder why this got added.

Definitely worth your while to pick up as many black diamonds as you can if you're leveling JC. These are abundant and usually cheap(I picked up 40 for around 5g). If TBC green uncut gems are pricey on your server, these are the best alternative up to 320.

Skill levels are off on this. Mine turned green at 320, and grey at 325.

The results of cutting of 24 Prismatic Black Diamonds:
7 Grenat sanguin brillant 29%
6 Pierre de lune azur solide 25%
5 Grenat sanguin soutenu 21%
5 Pierre de lune azur étincelante 21%
1 Grenat sanguin délicat 4%

Either I am very unlucky or it just does not give other (yellow) gems.

If you're using Diamant noir prismatique to level Joaillerie along with your other green Burning Crusade gems, don't be low on bag space. These gems DO NOT STACK with the others despite having the same stat bonus and item name.

Crafting 5 Grenat sanguin brillant, then crafting 4 Diamant noir prismatique (which let's say are also Grenat sanguin brillant) will leave you with a stack of 5 Grenat sanguin brillant and a stack of 4 Grenat sanguin brillant that will not combine to form one stack of 9. They are otherwise identical.
